Background and aimsHigh-fat diet (HFD) intake during gestation and lactation has been associated with an increased risk of developing cardiometabolic disorders in adult offspring. We investigated whether metabolic alterations resulting from the maternal consumption of HFD are prevented by the addition of omega-3 (?3) in the diet. Methods and resultsWistar rat dams were fed a control (C: 19% of lipids and ?6:?3 = 12), HF (HF: 33% lipids and ?6:?3 = 21), or HF enriched with ?3 (HFω3: 33% lipids and ?6:?3 = 9) diet during gestation and lactation, and their offspring food consumption, murinometric measurements, serum levels of metabolic markers, insulin and pyruvate sensitivity tests were evaluated. The maternal HFD increased body weight at birth, dyslipidemia, and elevated fasting glucose levels in the HF group. The enrichment of ?3 in the maternal HFD led to lower birth weight and improved lipid, glycemic, and transaminase biochemical profile of the HFω3 group until the beginning of adulthood. However, at later adulthood of the offspring, there was no improvement in these biochemical parameters.ConclusionOur findings show the maternal consumption of high-fat ?3-rich diet is able to attenuate or prevent metabolic disruption elicited by HFD in offspring until 90 days old, but not in the long term, as observed at 300 days old of the offspring. 相似文献
Background and objective: The second most common cancer in men after lung cancer is prostate cancer (PC).Previous studies assessed the association between food items or food groups and the risk of PC, but diet quality indicesare unique approaches to study any relations between diet and disease. Our objective was to investigate the effect ofhealthy eating index (HEI-2010) and Mediterranean-Style Dietary Pattern Score (MSDPS) on PC risk. Methods: Inthis case-control study, we recruited 97 patients with MS and 205 control subjects . Dietary intake was evaluted usinga valid and reliable food frequency questionnaire. The HEI and MSDPS were calculated. Logistic regression was usedto evaluate the relationship between HEI and MSDP scores and PC risk after adjusting the confounders. Results: Incomparison to controls, cases had lower score on HEI (61 vs. 70.07; P< 0.001), and higher score on MSDP (26.20 vs.24.49; P= 0.44). After comparing the highest and the lowest tertile of HEI, we observed a significant decreasing trendin the risk of PC (p for trend<0.001). Conclusion: Our findings suggested that a high quality diet, according to HEI,may decrease the risk of PC. 相似文献
Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune intestinal disease caused by the intake of gluten-containing cereals and their products by individuals with genetic susceptibility genes. Vitiligo is a commonly acquired depigmentation of the skin; its clinical manifestation are skin patches caused by localized or generalized melanin deficiency. Both diseases have similar global incidence rates (approximately 1%) and are associated to similar diseases, including autoimmune bullous disease, inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmune thyroiditis, autoimmune gastritis, and type 1 diabetes. The relationship between CD and vitiligo has been reported in several studies, but their conclusions are inconsistent. Further, it has also been reported that a gluten-free diet (GFD) can improve the symptoms of immune-related skin diseases such as vitiligo. In this mini-review, we summarize and review the literature on the relationship between CD and vitiligo, assess the therapeutic significance of GFD for patients with vitiligo, and explore their possible physiopathology. We are hopeful that the information summarized here will assist physicians who treat patients with CD or vitiligo, thereby improving the prognosis. 相似文献
Purpose: Adipose tissue expansion can occur through several different ways and, under certain conditions, can be connected with chronic inflammation. TNF-α is one of the important cytokines involved in this process. Prolonged inflammation in obesity can lead to obesity-related insulin resistance and tissue dysfunction. The aim of our study was to investigate how different combination of maternal and postnatal diet affects offspring adipose tissue morphology and adipose tissue TNF-α expression.
Methods: Ten female Sprague Dawley rats, 9 weeks old, were randomly divided into two groups and fed either standard laboratory chow or food rich in saturated fatty acids during 6 weeks and then mated with the same male rat. After birth and lactation male rat offspring from both groups were divided into four subgroups depending on the diet they were fed until 22 weeks old. Samples of white adipose tissue were taken from the subcutaneous, epididymal, and perirenal fat pad. On tissue sections, histomorphometric analysis was conducted using CellProfiler program v 2.1.1, and immunohistochemical staining for TNF-α was performed.
Results: Greater mean surface area of subcutaneous and epididymal adipocytes was found in groups of male rat offspring with altered diet. In perirenal adipose tissue, the highest number of adipocytes was measured in the group where both mother and offspring were fed a high-fat diet. Adipocyte staining intensity for TNF-α did not differ significantly between the groups.
Conclusions: Together with our previously published data, our results lead to the conclusion that alteration of postnatal diet can lead to TNF-α and adipocyte morphology changes. 相似文献
In the present study, effect of exposure of bisphenol A (BPA) and combined exposure of BPA + HSD has been investigated on the glucose homeostasis and associated renal complications in Drosophila. Exposure of 1.0 mM BPA alone induced type 2 diabetes like condition (T2D) in adult male D. melanogaster via oxidative stress. Elevated TGF-β signaling was evident by increased expression of baboon (babo) in BPA exposed organism that stimulated the modulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) component collagen IV resulting in the fibrosis of the Malpighian tubules (MTs). Combined exposure of BPA + HSD (high sucrose diet) resulted in the increased magnitude of T2D and MTs dysfunction parameters. Taken together, the study illustrates that BPA has diabetogenic potential in exposed Drosophila that caused adverse effects on their MTs and combined exposure with BPA and HSD could aggravate the renal tubular dysfunction. The study further suggests the use of Drosophila model to study the environmental chemicals induced diabetes mediated renal dysfunction. 相似文献
