An implant impression technique involving abutment transition from interim prostheses to definitive restorations in the esthetic zone

This article presents an impression technique involving transfer of the position of implants and the emergence profile of splinted interim prostheses fabricated on nonindexed interim abutments to definitive single crowns fabricated on indexed abutments.     

Effect of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Porphyromonas gingivalis on proliferation and apoptosis of gingival epithelial cells

PurposeThis study aimed to evaluate the possible antagonistic effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus on Porphyromonas gingivalis, and detect inhibition of Lactobacillus acidophilus on Porphyromonas gingivalis when they are co-cultured with human gingival epithelial cells.Materials and methodsHuman gingival epithelial cells were co-cultured with Lactobacillus acidophilus and Porphyromonas gingivalis alone or together. The amount of Porphyromonas gingivalis adhering to or invading the epithelial cells were determined by bacterial counts. The cellular proliferation was assayed by the MTT method. Apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry with apoptosis detection kit.ResultsOn one hand, Lactobacillus acidophilus reduced the inhibitory effect of Porphyromonas gingivalis on the human gingival epithelial cells proliferation in a dose dependent manner. On the other hand, Porphyromonas gingivalis induced significant apoptosis on human gingival epithelial cells, and Lactobacillus acidophilus inhibited this apoptosis-inducing effect of Porphyromonas gingivalis in a dose dependent manner.ConclusionsPorphyromonas gingivalis inhibits the proliferation and induces the apoptosis of human gingival epithelial cells. Lactobacillus acidophilus could attenuate this effect in a dose-dependent manner, and it thus reduces the destruction from pathogens. Lactobacillus acidophilus could be an effective candidate for probiotic therapy in periodontal diseases.     

高等院校口腔门诊经营管理课程的实施与探索

目的　在目前本科创业教育改革的背景下,探讨在口腔医学院本科教育中引入口腔门诊经营管理相关课程的必要性和可行性。方法　在浙江中医药大学口腔医学院中面向本科三年级学生开设创业课程——口腔门诊经营管理,采用CBL、PBL、教师主讲、学生上台试讲与PPT演示、角色扮演、团队合作等多种教学方式进行授课,并在课程结束后采用问卷调查从多个群体的角度对课程设置、必要性、教学形式和满意度等方面进行调查。通过SPSS软件进行数据分析,根据数据结果进行教学效果评估。结果　纳入研究的108名听课学生课程成绩为（75.99±5.76）分,呈正态函数分布。数据结果显示,课程结束后产生自主创业想法的学生人数与开课前比较,增加了41名（37.96%）。纳入研究的所有授课教师和33名（78.57%）在职医生认为该课程在本科开设合理。结论　在口腔医学本科教育中引入口腔门诊经营管理相关课程是必要且可行的,对口腔医生的长远发展有一定指导性作用,对医学院校创新创业课程改革作出了有益的探索。     

Immediate implant placement and complete mouth rehabilitation with CAD-CAM titanium frameworks and cemented crowns for a patient with severe periodontal disease: A clinical report

The technique of immediate implantation has been widely used to reduce treatment time and bone loss after extraction. However, immediate implant placement in infected extraction sockets is generally contraindicated. This clinical report describes a treatment protocol for immediate implantation after the extraction of teeth with generalized chronic periodontitis. The technique used for the oral rehabilitation used computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) titanium frameworks and cemented zirconia crowns. The titanium frameworks overcame suboptimal implant position and the cemented crowns provided excellent function and esthetics despite the locations of screw-access openings. No clinical complications occurred during a 13-month follow-up.
