ABSTRACTThis study evaluated the efficacy of the Literacy-Free 12 Step Expressive Arts Therapy© curriculum in enhancing personal change and treatment outcomes for populations dually diagnosed with substance use and mental health disorders. It supplemented standard rehabilitation treatment for 47 individuals in a U.S. facility by incorporating 12 Step guidelines, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavior therapy, and expressive arts activities. Pre-session and post-session participant ratings revealed positive increases for commitment to recovery, attitude toward making lifestyle changes, and hopefulness. Compared to 101 inpatients at the same facility, curriculum participants evidenced less drop-out, higher treatment completion, and greater personal investment in recovery. 相似文献

Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty is an accepted treatment for selected patients with single vessel disease but has not been rigorously evaluated in patients with double vessel disease. Among 769 patients undergoing transluminal coronary angioplasty between 1980 and 1984, 74 with double vessel stenosis of 50% or more underwent double vessel coronary angioplasty. Primary success was obtained for both lesions in 63 patients (85%), for one lesion in 11 patients (15%) and for 137 (93%) of 148 segments overall. Except for myocardial infarction in one patient, no serious complication occurred. Before coronary angioplasty, 15 patients had unstable angina, 14 had Canadian Cardiovascular Society class III and 32 class I to II effort angina and only 2 were asymptomatic. Six months after coronary angioplasty, 27 were asymptomatic, 27 had class I to II and 5 had class III effort angina and 2 had sustained an episode of unstable angina. During the follow-up study, two patients had an infarction and one had coronary artery bypass surgery. Coronary arteriography was performed at a mean of 5.5 +/- 2.1 months after coronary angioplasty in all but three patients. Restenosis was found in 30 (23%) of 132 segments with angiographic control. Restenosis was present in one vessel in 17 patients and in both vessels in 4; 40 patients (66%) had no restenosis. Of the 34 patients with definite or probable angina, 50% had restenosis and 19% of patients with restenosis were symptom free.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献

Abstract This paper is based upon a keynote address given at the Conference ‘Crafting the Future’ on 8 October 2004, entitled ‘The Economics of Inclusion: How the policy of inclusion and the changing nature of funding schools offers unique opportunities for creative therapists’. The conference was held in London and organised by SESAME UK & International, The British Association of Drama Therapists and The British Association of Art Therapists. This paper also includes the findings from a research study carried out by Goncalves (2004), which investigated the views of children about art therapy, and the attitudes of educational psychologists about working with creative arts therapists. It is argued that the changing educational scene offers unparalleled opportunities for creative arts therapists, but there is a major need to explain and market services in the interests of the children who need them. Indeed, children surveyed spoke positively about the impact of art therapy on their lives. Educational psychologists had limited knowledge of the work of creative arts therapies but would like to know more. 相似文献

Our study aims to identify trends in anthropomorphic attributes and competitive strategies of successful (medalists) versus non medalist young Olympic Taekwondo competitors by gender in terms of body mass, body-mass index (BMI) and fighting technique at the Youth Olympic Games 2010. Results were then compared to adult Taekwondo Olympic athletes in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Data on 96 Taekwondo athletes were obtained from the official Youth Olympic website. A LOGIT analysis was performed on the following six independent variables: height, body mass, body mass index, gender, techniques used to score, and warnings obtained during a match. The study did find some differences between winners and non-winners for males and female, although none of the differences were statistically significant. Consequently, training personnel may enhance winning potential of Taekwondo competitors by focusing on offensive versus defensive techniques and improving the quality of punching. 相似文献

Cultural animation in health research: An innovative methodology for patient and public involvement and engagement 下载免费PDF全文

Background
A significant challenge in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in health research is to include a wide range of opinions and experiences, including from those who repeatedly find themselves at the margins of society. Objective
To contribute to the debate around PPIE by introducing a bottom‐up methodology: cultural animation (CA). Cultural Animation is an arts‐based methodology of knowledge co‐production and community engagement which employs a variety of creative and participatory exercises to help build trusting relationships between diverse participants (expert and non‐experts) and democratize the process of research.Design
Three CA full‐day workshops for the research project “A Picture of Health.”Participants
Each workshop was attended by 20‐25 participants including 4 academics, 5 retired health professionals who volunteered in the local community and 15 community members. Participants ranged in age from 25 to 75 years, and 80% of the participants were women over the age of 60.Results
The CA workshops unearthed a diversity of hidden assets, increased human connectivity, led to rethinking of and co‐creating new health indicators and enabled participants to think of community health in a positive way and to consider what can be developed.Discussion
Cultural animation encourages participants to imagine and create ideal pictures of health by experimenting with new ways of working together. Conclusion
We conclude by highlighting the main advantages to PPIE as follows: CA provides a route to co‐produce research agendas, empowers the public to engage actively with health professionals and make a positive contribution to their community. 相似文献17.

Graham McCaffrey 《Nursing inquiry》2019,26(2)
Humanism has appeared intermittently in the nursing literature as a concept that can be used in understanding nursing. I return to the concept in response to noticing the term appearing in the context of health humanities, where it is loosely associated both with humanities and being humane. I review the usage and critiques of humanism in both nursing and medical literature and then re‐evaluate what the idea of humanism might hold for nursing, trying to avoid the traps of an over‐determination of the human subject, or dichotomizing nursing as art or science, technology or caring. I draw on writings on humanism primarily from Emmanuel Levinas and Edward Said to emphasize strands in humanism of obligation towards others and of critical discernment within history and culture directed towards democratic practices. I discuss in passing the strong association in the UK particularly between humanism and scientism as a note of caution about the plurality of the term humanism. I conclude that humanism is a tradition that does offer productive ways of thinking about nursing with the proviso that it ought to be treated carefully as a problematic tradition and not as a new essence for nursing. 相似文献

ObjectivesTo explore the provision of medical care at ‘unlicensed’, full-contact amateur and lower-level professional combat sports competitions in England.DesignQualitative, mixed methods.MethodsObservations totalling 200 h of fieldwork shadowing medical professionals at 27 individual combat sports events, alongside formal, semi-structured interviews with 25 medical professionals, 7 referees and 9 promoters/event staff.ResultsPractices and standards vary widely. Event organisers and promoters often have very little understanding of how different types of medical practitioners operate. They rarely, if ever, check that the staff they are hiring are qualified, sometimes resulting in unqualified staff being used to provide medical cover at events. Venues are often poorly equipped to accommodate basic medical procedures. Patient confidentiality is very often compromised. Medical professionals often have limited autonomy within the combat sports milieu and may find themselves marginalised, with their judgements overruled by non-medical staff during competitive events. Some practitioners are cognisant of the dangers such working environments pose to their professional reputations and livelihoods, but remain working within combat sports regardless.ConclusionsDespite pockets of good practice, the lack of standardised rules for medical care provision creates substantial risks to athletes, to practitioners and the standing of the profession. The development and implementation of standardised, enforceable regulatory frameworks for full-contact combat sports in England is urgently needed. 相似文献

To address child trauma caused by events that affect children directly, such as abuse, or indirectly, such as divorce, creative arts therapies are used by creative arts therapists as well as psychologists and counselors. The purpose of this paper is to review such interventions and the research conducted throughout the last 12 years. We considered the methodology used, the population under study and theoretical frameworks, with specific attention given to the reliability, validity and trustworthiness of such research findings. The results showed that the majority of articles reported their findings narratively, with much emphasis placed on the process followed. It was recommended that therapists work closely with researchers to make creative arts therapies less of an outlier in the therapeutic approaches for traumatized children. 相似文献
