The recording of sounds over the oribt of the eye has been found to be useful in the detection of intracranial aneurysms. A hydrophone for auscultation over the eye has been developed and is tested under controlled conditions. The tests consist of measurement over the eyes in three healthy volunteers at rest, during voluntary breathing, during eyeball movements and during sustained orbicular muscular contractions. Furthermore, measurements are performed at the side of the nose. Major features of the hydrophonic transducer are high sensitivity to physiological sounds and a high degree of insensitivity to environmental sounds propagated through the air. It can be concluded that the hydrophone may be useful for the early detection of intracranial aneurysms and also for apnoea detection.  相似文献

An in vivo model has been developed for chronic observation of the effects of ischemia on cortical bone remodeling and perfused vascularity. Diaphragm occluders were implanted around the right common iliac artery of four rabbits and inflated to produce 10 h of ischemia to the limb. Microcirculation was monitored with intravital microscopy of injected fluorescent microspheres and FITC-Dextran 70 through a bone window, the tibial bone chamber implant (BCI). Bone resorption and apposition in the BCI were indicated with mineralization dyes. Between 2 and 12 h following release of the occluder, secondary ischemia/no-reflow and other evidence of reperfusion injury were observed. Vessel damage was suggested by abnormally high leakage of FITC-D70 from the few vessels perfused during secondary ischemia. In the weeks following occluder release perfused vasculature increased beyond pre-occlusion levels. Net bone resorption reached a maximum when vascularity passed normal levels. In order to further validate the arterial occlusion model for osteonecrosis, techniques for (1) confirming bone death and (2) detecting increased leukocyte adherence to endothelial cells were added. The dead cell stain Ethidium homodimer-1 was used to tag dead osteocytes immediately after occlusion and produced a measure designated osteonecrosis index. To detect leukocytes adhering to vessel walls, carboxyfluorescein diacetate, succinimidyl ester was injected at occluder release. Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is common in refugees but its association with longer-term psychosocial dysfunction remains unclear. We examined whether a subgroup of refugees with comorbid PTSD and depression were at particularly high risk of disability. We also investigated whether specific trauma experiences were linked to this comorbid pattern. Methods: Consecutive Bosnians (and one or two compatriots nominated by them) were recruited from a community centre, yielding a total sample of 126 participants (response rate 86%). Measures included a trauma inventory, the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) (Blake et al., 1995) and the depression module of the Structured Clinical Interview (SCID) (First et al., 1997). Results: Three diagnostic groupings emerged: normals (n=39), pure PTSD (n=29), and comorbid PTSD and depression (n=58). Of four trauma dimensions derived from principle components analysis (human rights violations, dispossession and eviction, life threat and traumatic loss), life threat alone was associated with pure PTSD, with life threat and traumatic loss both being associated with comorbidity. Compared to normals and those with pure PTSD, the comorbid group manifested more severe PTSD symptoms as well as higher levels of disability on all indices (global dysfunction: odds RATIO=5.0, P<0.001, distress: odds RATIO=6.0, P<0.001, social impairment: odds ratio 5.9, P<0.001, and occupational disability: odds ratio 5.0, P<0.001). Limitations: Recruitment was not random, the sample size was modest, and trauma event endorsement was based on retrospective accounts. Conclusions: The combination of life threat and traumatic loss may be particularly undermining to the psychological well-being of refugees and consequent comorbidity of PTSD and depression may be associated with longer-term psychosocial dysfunction. The findings raise the question whether the comorbid pattern identified should be given more recognition as a core posttraumatic affective disorder.  相似文献

The paper presents an adaptive noise canceller (ANC) filter using an artificial neural network for real-time removal of electro-oculogram (EOG) interference from electro-encephalogram (EEG) signals. Conventional ANC filters are based on linear models of interference. Such linear models provide poorer prediction for biomedical signals. In this work, a recurrent neural network was employed for modelling the interference signals. The eye movement and eye blink artifacts were recorded by the placing of an electrode on the forehead above the left eye and an electrode on the left temple. The reference signal was then generated by the data collected from the forehead electrode being added to data recorded from the temple electrode. The reference signal was also contaminated by the EEG. To reduce the EEG interference, the reference signal was first low-pass filtered by a moving averaged filter and then applied to the ANC. Matlab Simulink was used for real-time data acquisition, filtering and ocular artifact suppression. Simulation results show the validity and effectiveness of the technique with different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of the primary signal. On average, a significant improvement in SNR up to 27 dB was achieved with the recurrent neural network. The results from real data demonstrate that the proposed scheme removes ocular artifacts from contaminated EEG signals and is suitable for real-time and short-time EEG recordings.  相似文献

为探讨大剂量激素对脑创伤后脑微循环及血液流变性的影响,将24只家兔随机等分为3组:标准对照组、损伤对照组和地塞米松治疗组。分别在伤前0.5h、伤后0.5h、1h、2h、3h测量软脑膜微动脉管径和血流速度的变化及伤后3h血液流变学指标。结果表明:大剂量激素在伤后0.5h就能明显地扩张损伤处软脑膜的微动脉并使血流速度明显加快。伤后3h能明显降低血沉、全血粘度、红细胞压积及纤维蛋白原含量,并明显增强红细胞的变形能力,降低其聚集性。这些结果表明大剂量激素能明显改善脑创伤后家兔的脑微循环及血液流变性  相似文献

Work undertaken to investigate the effect on EEG responses of ocular artefact removal by proportional electro-oculogram subtraction using the least-squares method is reported. The ocular artefact model and the least-squares approach to estimation of the model parameters and hence of the EEG waveform, including the response, are described. Results are presented to show that the response shapes become modified if ocular artefact removal is implemented recursively. This happens because the response is incorrectly treated as part of the random background EEG. The solution is to incorporate a model of the response within the ocular artefact removal algorithm. The results of tests on simulated data confirm these conclusions. The results of the incorporation of response models in removing ocular artefacts from CNV recordings are presented. Even with modelling recursive ocular artefact removal is found to modify the shape of the CNV, and so reliable results can only be obtained if the removal is implemented nonrecursively. Evidence is given that it is advisable to remove DC levels from the recorded data.  相似文献

Doppler ultrasound is known as a reliable technique, which demonstrates the flow characteristics and resistance of ophthalmic arteries. In this study, ophthalmic arterial Doppler signals were obtained from 106 subjects, 54 of whom suffered from ocular Behcet disease while the rest were healthy subjects. Multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) employing delta-bar-delta training algorithm was used to detect the presence of ocular Behcet disease. Spectral analysis of the ophthalmic arterial Doppler signals was performed by least squares (LS) autoregressive (AR) method for determining the MLPNN inputs. The MLPNN was trained with training set, cross validated with cross validation set and tested with testing set. All these data sets were obtained from ophthalmic arteries of healthy subjects and subjects suffering from ocular Behcet disease. Performance indicators and statistical measures were used for evaluating the MLPNN. The correct classification rate was 96.43% for healthy subjects and 93.75% for unhealthy subjects suffering from ocular Behcet disease. The classification results showed that the MLPNN employing delta-bar-delta training algorithm was effective to detect the ophthalmic arterial Doppler signals with Behcet disease.  相似文献

An investigation of ocular artefacts (OAs) in the human electroencephalogram (EEG) to quantify the effectiveness of OA removal and to find the most effective model for removing OAs online is described. In Part 1, the models used in the investigation are described and the data analysed. The analysis showed that the ‘true’ EEG exhibited a high degree of serial correlation and so the ordinary least-squares (OLS) method employed to remove OA was inefficient. Efficient alternative methods based on autoregressive models of the ‘true’ EEG are discussed. It is also shown that the EOGs are linearly dependent making some of them redundant. Objective: To determine the effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) on ocular blood flow.

Study design: In a prospective controlled study, 40 healthy women who presented to the menopause clinic between December 2000 and December 2001 were randomly assigned into the study. The HRT-receiving group was administered estradiol 17-valerate 2 mg the first 11 days, and estradiol 17-valerate 2 mg plus ciproterone acetate 1 mg the next 10 days of the monthly cycle for 6 months. The control group did not receive any HRT for 6 months. The ocular colour Doppler analysis were performed at baseline and after 3 and 6 months. The ocular Doppler analysis was performed in the first half of the cycle in the HRT-receiving group.

Results: Central retinal artery and ophthalmic artery basal Doppler index (peak systolic velocity, end-diastolic velocity, resistive index and pulsatility index) values of the two groups at the beginning of the study did not show any statistically significant difference. Both the right and the left central retinal artery pulsatility index (PI) values of the study group, who received HRT at the end of the third and sixth months, showed a statistically significant decline (paired-samples test, P < 0.05), while the decrease in the resistive indexes was not significant.

Conclusion: These results suggest that 6 months of combined hormone replacement therapy with estradiol 17-valerate 2 mg plus ciproterone acetate 1 mg improves ocular vascular Doppler indices which may be a reflection of cerebral vascular status.  相似文献

The paper describes a low-cost system for the measurement of ocular accommodation. Digitisation of the low-frequency signals obtained from the measurement is straightforward and high-speed methods are not necessary. The methods described are, therefore, of interest to workers involved in the study of low-frequency signals, which are common in biological systems.  相似文献
