Background and aims Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is considered a safe, effective, and significant treatment in patients suffering from a major depressive disorder. Anxiety caused by this invasive treatment may impose several side effects on patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of aromatherapy with inhaled lavender essential oil and breathing exercises on ECT-related anxiety in depressed patients.Methods In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 90 depressed patients were selected and divided into three groups: aromatherapy, breathing exercise, and routine care using a random allocation method. Before undergoing ECT, the aromatherapy group was exposed to the inhaled lavender essential oil (n = 30), the breathing exercise group performed the breathing exercises (n = 30), and the routine care group received routine care (n = 30). Before (20 min) and after the intervention (30 min later), patients' anxiety was assessed using Beck Anxiety Inventory.Results After the intervention, the results revealed that anxiety score changes were statistically significant among the three groups (p < 0.001). In addition, it was found that the patients’ mean anxiety scores significantly decreased in the aromatherapy and breathing exercise groups compared to with the pre-intervention scores (p < 0.001).Conclusion Aromatherapy with inhaled lavender essential oil and breathing exercises can be considered by clinical nurses as simple, applicable, and effective interventions to reduce ECT-related anxiety in depressed patients.  相似文献

Anaplasmosis is a tick-transmitted disease due to several species of the genus Anaplasma. In 2019, we demonstrated the presence of Anaplasma capra in two deer species at a zoological park in mainland France. As we suspected its presence in Corsica, we surveyed 11 geographically distant sheep or goat farms. Using molecular tools such as nested PCR targeting 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA), citrate synthase (gltA) and heat-shock protein (groEL) genes, we detected the presence of A. capra on 5/11 farms, in 26/108 blood samples (24%), in sheep as well as in goats. Genotyping and phylogenetic analysis of A. capra revealed that isolates from Corsica island grouped closely with A. capra isolates reported in red deer and swamp deer from a zoological reserve in mainland France, as well as in roe deer from Spain, in a separate and well supported clade within A. capra clade II. This third report of the tick-borne bacterium A. capra in Europe suggests a potentially larger presence of this pathogen on the European continent, on domestic, native as well as wild ruminants, a broad host range already described in Asian countries for this species.  相似文献

Recent studies have revealed that lignin-like polymerized polyphenols can activate innate immune systems. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether these polymerized polyphenols could activate leukocytes from different murine strains. Splenocytes from 12 mouse strains were investigated. Our results revealed species differences in reactivity to phenolic polymers on interferon-γ (IFN-γ) release. Mice that possessed the H2a or H2k haplotype antigens were the highly responsive strains. To clarify these different points in soluble factors, multiplex cytokine profiling analysis was carried out and we identified interleukin (IL)-2 as a key molecule for IFN-γ induction by polymerized polyphenols. Furthermore, inhibition of IL-2 and IL-2Rα by neutralizing antibodies significantly decreased cytokine production in the highly responsive mice strains. Our results indicate that species difference in reactivity to phenolic polymers is mediated by adequate release of IL-2 and its receptor, IL-2Rα.  相似文献

IntroductionIn the early stage of fracture fixation, the aim of a unilateral external fixator (UEF) to stimulate healing and maintain stability may be suppressed by using inadequate number of pins. Cortical thinning due to age or osteoporosis endangers a successful fracture fixation.Materials and methodsThis study evaluates the initial strength and stability of the fracture fixation and tissue differentiation under the influences of variable cortical thickness (5 mm to 1 mm) and variable number of pins (1 to 4 in each bone fragment). A finite element program was utilised to develop 20 three-dimensional models of simplified diaphyseal tibia with fracture callus fixed with UEF. A mechano-regulation code based on the deviatoric strain theory was written and applied to simulate tissue differentiation. The values of von Mises stress, interfragmentary strain (IFS), and fibrocartilage index (FCI) were evaluated.ResultsCortical thinning from 5 mm to 1 mm increased IFS and FCI by an average of 30.3% and 18.7%, respectively, and resulted in higher stresses in the UEF and bone. Using 1 pin in each bone fragment produced excessive IFS in the models with 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm cortical thickness. Inserting the second pin into the bone fragment could considerably reduce the IFS and fibrocartilaginous tissue formation in the fracture site and improve load transmission to the fixator. Whereas inserting the fourth pin could minimally affect the mechano-biological environment of healing.ConclusionsThis study suggests that initial instability due to cortical thinning can be efficiently alleviated by adding the number of pins up to 3 in a UEF; additionally, it may improve the knowledge about applying UEFs adequately stable, whilst promoting inclination toward endochondral ossification, simultaneously.  相似文献

Accelerated frequency of recreational travel, globalization of business, and legal and illegal plant and animal trades have contributed to enduring introductions of exotic ticks into the United States. We herein report a new incursion of a female Rhipicephalus capensis on a human traveler returning to Connecticut from South Africa. Natural distribution of R. capensis is restricted to the Western Cape Province and southwestern portion of the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, an area called the Fynbos Biome, and adults of this species primarily parasitize large, wild ungulate hosts. Only one previous international introduction of this tick is documented on imported South African plant material into the United States in 1985. The specimen described here was identified initially by morphological means and subsequently, a partial DNA sequence for the mitochondrial ribosomal RNA gene was generated in a PCR assay, which showed 94.86% identity to an R. capensis sequence in GenBank. We also provide information on several other previously unreported or under-reported incursions by South African ticks into the United States in association with imported Fynbos floricultural materials and speckled Cape tortoises, Chersobius signatus. Documentation of these additional exotic tick species incursions highlights ongoing challenges of the international movement of humans, animals, and other goods carrying ticks of human and veterinary importance.  相似文献

Q fever is a global zoonotic infection caused by the intracellular Gram-negative bacterium Coxiella burnetii. Historically, it is considered a vector-borne disease, but the role of ticks in transmission has not fully been elucidated yet. Excretion of C. burnetii in tick feces and saliva is well documented but the role of these findings or the epidemiological context is discussed controversially. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of C. burnetii DNA in ticks to clarify the potential role of tick species for maintenance of C. burnetii infection. A literature review was performed using Google scholar, Agora, Science Direct, PubMed and Scopus to identify original studies on C. burnetii DNA presence in ticks. The search was limited to literature published from 2009 to 2020 in English and French and focused on data obtained by molecular detection of C. burnetii DNA in ticks. Overall, the prevalence of C. burnetii in ticks collected in Africa varied from 2.91% to 13.97%, in Europe from 2.46% to 10.52% and the Middle East from 4.76% to 12.53%. Ticks collected from animals showed a prevalence of 8% (95% CI: 6%–10%), followed by ticks collected from the environment and animals of 7% (95% CI: 5%–10%). C. burnetii DNA has been found in samples of many tick species with the highest prevalence in Rhipicephalus evertsi and Amblyomma variegatum. However, most of these studies did not include a differentiation between C. burnetii and Coxiella-like endosymbionts making it finally difficult to estimate the potential role that ticks play in the epidemiology of Q fever. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the vector competence of different tick species to transmit C. burnetii. Knowledge of the vector and reservoir competence of ticks is important for taking adequate preventive measures to limit infection risks.  相似文献
