The utilization of a probe with synthetic diamond as the sensing material developed to measure radiation doses from mammography X-ray beams is described. The computer code system PENELOPE was used, with a geometry model simulating the experimental conditions, to compute the doses from the mammography X-ray beams to the diamond sensing material. The orientation of the diamond sensor to provide maximum absorption of the incident X-ray beam during exposure was also investigated using the PENELOPE code. BackgroundEarly and accurate detection of HIV is crucial when using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention to avoid PrEP initiation in acutely infected individuals and to minimize the risk of drug resistance in individuals with breakthrough infection.ObjectiveTo determine if fourth-generation antigen/antibody (Ag/Ab) rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) would have detected HIV infection earlier than the third-generation RDT used in MTN-003 (VOICE).Study design5029 VOICE participants were evaluated with third-generation Alere Determine™ HIV-1/2, OraQuick ADVANCE® Rapid HIV-1/2, Uni-Gold™ Recombigen® HIV-1/2 and Bio-Rad GS HIV-1/2 + O EIA; and fourth-generation Alere Determine™ HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo, Conformité Européene (CE)-Marked Alere™ HIV Combo and Bio-Rad HIV Combo Ag/Ab EIA. Multispot®, GS HIV-1 Western Blot (WB) and Geenius™ (Bio-Rad) were also evaluated.ResultsOf 57 antibody-negative pre-seroconversion plasma samples with HIV RNA >20 copies/mL identified, 16 (28%) were reactive by CE-Marked Alere™ HIV Combo (1 Ab; 9 Ag; 6 Ag/Ab reactive) and 4 (7%) by Alere Determine™ HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo (2 Ab; 2 Ag; 0 Ag/Ab reactive) (p = 0.0005). Multispot® confirmed only 1 of 16 acute infections while WB and Geenius™ confirmed none. GS HIV Combo Ag/Ab EIA identified 27 of 57 (47%) pre-seroconversion RNA-positive samples.ConclusionIn VOICE, 28% of infections missed by current third-generation RDT would have been identified with the use of CE-Marked Alere™ HIV Combo. Geenius™, Multispot® and WB were all insensitive ( < 10%) in confirming infections detected by fourth-generation assays. An improved diagnostic algorithm that includes a fourth-generation RDT with HIV RNA testing will be essential for efficiently identifying seroconverters on PrEP. 相似文献

Purpose
It has previously been shown that deleterious changes occur in the epithelium and stroma of the endometrium of the rat following ovarian hyperstimulation by exogenous gonadotropins. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the formation of possible implantation sites following hyperstimulation. Female rats (n =8) were injected in phase with their estrous cycle with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), followed by human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and mated at proestrous. Control rats (n =6) were uninjected and mated at proestrous. Animals were killed at 5.5 days of pregnancy. The pontamine blue technique was used to demonstrate the permeability of the uterine vessels. Implantation sites were demonstrated in the uterine horns of all control animals by segmental blue banding.
Results Blue staining occurred only in a portion of one horn of one hyperstimulated animal. While fenestrations were found in the walls of capillaries of control animals, similar fenestrations were not observed in the vessels of hyperstimulated animals.Conclusion As the walls of vessels in the hyperstimulated animals failed to become permeable, and as no implanting embryos were found in these animals, it is concluded that there was an inability of the endometrium to form implantation sites. Fe-MCM-41 materials were prepared by different methods. The Fe was both incorporated into the structure and formed crystallites attached to the silica. High Fe content MCM-41 (~16 wt%) with retention of mesoporosity and long-range order was achieved by a range of new synthetic methodologies: (i) by delaying the addition of Fe3+(aq) to the stirred synthesis gel by 2 h, (ii) by addition of Fe3+ precursor as a freshly-precipitated aqueous slurry, (iii) by exploiting a secondary synthesis with Si-MCM-41 as SiO2 source. For comparative purposes the MCM-41 was also prepared by incipient wetness impregnation (IWI). Although all these synthesis methods preserved mesoporosity and long-range order of the SiO2 matrix, the hydrothermally-fabricated Fe materials prepared via the secondary synthesis route has the most useful properties for exploitation as a catalyst, in terms of hydrothermal stability of the resulting support. Temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) studies revealed a three-peak reduction pattern for this material instead of the commonly observed two-peak reduction pattern. The three peaks showed variable intensity that related to the presence of two components: crystalline Fe2O3 and Fe embedded in the SiO2 matrix (on the basis of ESR studies). The role of secondary synthesis of Si-MCM-41 on the iron reducibility was also demonstrated in IWI of sec-Si-MCM-41. 相似文献
