Expression of cytokine genes in blood mononuclear cells in women with pyoinflammatory diseases of adnexa uteri

Production of interleukin, interferon-, and transforming growth ₂-factor mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was studied in women with pyoinflammatory diseases of adnexa uteri. Predominant expression of Th1 proinflammatory cytokine genes in patients was demonstrated. Production of interleukins 4 and 8 mRNA decreased 200- and 60-fold, respectively, in comparison with that in healthy women. One month and a half after extirpation of fallopian tubes the cytokine production in blood mononuclear cells shifted towards antiinflammatory cytokines, expression of interleukin-8 gene returned to normal, and expression of interleukin-4 gene increased.     

Anesthesiology in the surgical treatment of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias

Different anesthesias were used in 197 patients operated for supraventricular tachiarrhythmias through a transvenous access. Hypnoanalgesia based on preventive injection of a potent nonnarcotic antiinflammatory agent xefocame (lornoxicame), drip infusion of propofol (2-3 mg/kg/h), and bolus injection of dormicum under conditions of spontaneous respiration proved to be the best method.     

Glyciram as an enhancer of the effectiveness of chemotherapy and surgery in the treatment of experimental neoplasms

Glycyrramum was shown to potentiate the antitumor and antimetastatic effects of cyclophosphamide treatment in mice and rats with transplantable tumors. It also decreased its myelotoxicity. After primary Lewis lung carcinoma was removed glycyrramum treatment significantly inhibited metastacizing processes in mice.     

Detection of the DNA of the hepatitis B virus by molecular hybridization in HBsAg carriers and anemia patients

The method of molecular hybridization using cloned DNA of hepatitis B virus as a probe demonstrated the presence of virus-specific DNAs in sera of former blood donors, HBsAg carriers. Among HBsAg-positive patients with anemias, hepatitis B virus DNA was detected in half of the examined subjects which in all cases was accompanied by the presence of HBeAg in their blood.     

Congestive cardiomyopathy (pathologo-anatomic study of the heart)

A pathomorphologic study of 40 cases of congestive cardiomyopathy (CCMP) demonstrated that circulatory insufficiency was the cause of death in 70% of cases, while sudden death occurred in 25%. Morphometric investigation identified 3 CCMP patterns: cardiosclerosis-free and accompanied with small-focal (diffuse) and large-focal cardiosclerosis. The mean duration of the disease and the mean age at death were the smallest in the cardiosclerosis-free group where the dilatation of heart cavities was found to be the greatest. A direct relationship was demonstrated between the duration of the disease and the myocardial fibrous tissue content. Blood flow deceleration due to circulatory insufficiency in CCMP cases was shown to be conducive to thrombogenesis both in heart cavities, and in minor pulmonary arteries and myocardial veins.     

Interferon deficiency syndrome in children with lymphosarcoma

The capacity of the peripheral blood mononuclears to produce leukocyte (alpha) and immune (gamma) interferons as well as interferon concentrations in the serum were studied in 101 children suffering from lymphosarcoma. In the blood serum of the patients interferon titres did not exceed 4 units/ml. The lowered capacity of the peripheral blood mononuclears to produce one of the interferon species in titres below 32 units/ml is a bad prognostic factor. The syndrome of interferon deficiency in children suffering from lymphosarcoma is observed in one per 5 cases.
