The percentage of peripheral blood lymphocytes forming rosettes with sheep erythrocytes (E-rosettes) was determined in 33 severely malnourished Guatemalan children, and in two groups of clinically well but mildly growth retarded children from the same environment. Mean E-rosettes in the acutely ill patients was lower than the value observed in the mildly malnourished children, although there was considerable overlap between groups. These data differ from previously published studies of severely malnourished children from other parts of the world in that not all patients had decreased values for E-rosettes, in contrast to the uniform depression reported by others. As all patients were clinically similar, the results suggest that there may be specific nutrient defects associated with protein-energy malnutrition that particularly affect immune function. In addition, in vitro incubation of lymphocytes from the acutely malnourished children with the thymic factor, thymosin fraction 5, increased the percentage of E-rosettes in a dose-dependent fashion. These data suggest that immature, thymosin-responsive T cells are present in circulation. It is possible that in vivo thymosin administration may be beneficial for malnourished individuals. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to elucidate if the potentiating effect of neuropeptide Y on various vasoactive agents in vitro is (1) altered in mesenteric arteries from rats with congestive heart failure and (2) mediated by the neuropeptide Y Y1 receptor. The direct vascular effects of neuropeptide Y and its modulating effects on the contractions induced by endothelin-1-, noradrenaline-, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)-, U46619-(9, 11-dideoxy-11, 9-epoxymethano-prostaglandin F2) and ATP, and acetylcholine-induced dilatations were studied in the presence and absence of the neuropeptide Y Y1 antagonist, BIBP3226 (BIBP3226{(R)-N2-(diphenylacetyl)-N-[(4-hydroxyphenyl)methyl]-
-arginine-amide}). Neuropeptide Y, per se, had no vasoactive effect in the arteries. The potency of endothelin-1 was significantly decreased in congestive heart failure rats. Neuropeptide Y and neuropeptide Y-(13–36) potentiated the endothelin-1-induced contraction in congestive heart failure mesenteric arteries. In 20% of the congestive heart failure rats, sarafotoxin 6c induced a contraction of 31±4%. Neuropeptide Y also potentiated U46619- and noradrenaline-induced contractions but not 5-HT-induced contractions in congestive heart failure arteries. In sham-operated animals neuropeptide Y potentiated noradrenaline- and 5-HT-induced contractions. These potentiations were inhibited by BIBP3226. Acetylcholine induced an equipotent relaxation in both groups which was unaffected by neuropeptide Y. In conclusion, neuropeptide Y responses are altered in congestive heart failure rats. The potentiating effect differs between vasoactive substances. Neuropeptide Y Y1 and non-neuropeptide Y1 receptors are involved. 相似文献

We report a case of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) using the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) and a saphenous
vein graft in a 36-year-old man with Buerger's disease. He was hospitalized in the coronary intensive care unit with a diagnosis
of acute myocardial infarction. His coronary angiography showed total occlusion of the proximal segment of the left anterior
descending artery (LAD) and right coronary artery. Left ventricular dysfunction was detected by ventriculography. The patient
had undergone bilateral sympathectomy of the lumbar branches for distal arterial occlusions due to thromboangiitis obliterans
12 years previously. Under cardiopulmonary bypass and aortic cross-clamping, we performed endarterectomy and a complex bypass
procedure to LAD. Aorta-right coronary artery bypass was also applied. A histopathological study of an endarterectomy specimen
showed characteristic features of thromboangiitis obliterans. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was
discharged on the ninth postoperative day.

Background:
Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a common abnormality of the urinary tract in childhood.Objectives:
As urine enters the ureters and renal pelvis during voiding in vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), we hypothesized that change in body water composition before and after voiding may be less different in children with VUR.Patients and Methods:
Patients were grouped as those with VUR (Group 1) and without VUR (Group 2). Bioelectric impedance analysis was performed before and after voiding, and third space fluid (TSF) (L), percent of total body fluid (TBF%), extracellular fluid (ECF%), and intracellular fluid (ICF%) were recorded. After change of TSF, TBF, ECF, ICF (ΔTSF, ΔTBF%, ΔECF%, ΔICF%), urine volume (mL), and urine volume/body weight (mL/kg) were calculated. Groups 1 and 2 were compared for these parameters. In addition, pre- and post-voiding body fluid values were compared in each group.Results:
TBF%, ECF%, ICF%, and TSF in both pre- and post-voiding states and ΔTBF%, ΔECF%, ΔICF%, and ΔTSF after voiding were not different between groups. However, while post-voiding TBF%, ECF% was significantly decreased in Group 1 (64.5 ± 8.1 vs 63.7 ± 7.2, P = 0.013 for TBF%), there was not post-voiding change in TSF in the same group. On the other hand, there was also a significant TSF decrease in Group 2.Conclusions:
Bladder and ureter can be considered as the third space. Thus, we think that BIA has been useful in discriminating children with VUR as there was no decreased in patients with VUR, although there was decreased TSF in patients without VUR. This study was planned to assess whether tissue Doppler imaging is a useful method for the detection of the right ventricular myocardial infarction. Forty-eight patients with acute inferior myocardial infarction and 24 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included in this study. Twenty-four patients had electrocardiographic signs of inferior myocardial infarction without right ventricular infarction (group I), and the other 24 patients had electrocardiographic signs of inferior myocardial infarction with right ventricular infarction (group II). From the echocardiographic apical four-chamber view, peak systolic, early diastolic, and late diastolic velocities of the tricuspid annulus at the right ventricular free wall were recorded with the use of pulsed-wave Doppler tissue imaging. The tricuspid annular peak tissue Doppler imaging systolic velocity was significantly lower in group I (14.03 ± 2.57cm/s, P 0.005) and in group II (8.50 ± 0.84cm/s, P 0.005) than in controls (16.63 ± 2.31cm/s). The tricuspid annular peak systolic (8.50 ± 0.84cm/s vs 16.63 ± 2.31cm/s) and peak early diastolic (10.99 ± 3.28cm/s vs 19.39 ± 4.3cm/s) velocities were significantly lower in group II than in group I, as compared with controls (P 0.001). Peak early diastolic velocity of tricuspid annulus (10.99 ± 3.28cm/s vs 19.39 ± 4.3cm/s) was significantly lower in group I than in controls (P 0.001); however, late diastolic velocity was significantly lower in group II (15.98 ± 5.08cm/s, P 0.05) than in group I (18.21 ± 2.63cm/s, P 0.05) and in controls (19.02 ± 5.29cm/s). The results of this study indicate that tricuspid annular peak systolic and early diastolic velocities are reduced in patients with right ventricular infarction. The velocity of the tricuspid annulus by tissue Doppler imaging is simple and can be used to distinguish whether patients with inferior myocardial infarction have right ventricular infarction.This study was presented at the XXIII. Objectives
Prolidase is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family. It plays a major role in collagen turnover, matrix remodeling and cell growth. Nitric oxide (NO) regulates many processes such as collagen synthesis and matrix remodeling. Thus, NO may augment angiogenesis, tumor invasion, and metastasis. The aim of this study was to investigate total antioxidant status (TAS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and NO levels in patients with bladder cancer and to determine their relationship with prolidase activity.Design and methods
Thirty-five patients with bladder cancer and 32 controls were enrolled. Serum TAS, MDA, prolidase activity and NO levels were determined.Results
Serum prolidase activity, NO levels and MDA levels were significantly higher in bladder cancer than controls (all, P < 0.05), while TAS levels were significantly lower (P < 0.05).Conclusions
Our results show that increased prolidase seems to be associated with increased NO levels and oxidative stress along with decreased antioxidant levels in bladder cancer.10.

A 49-year-old woman who had idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura was admitted to our hospital with severe chest pain. Electrocardiography revealed inferolateral myocardial infarction. The patient underwent immediate coronary angiography, which revealed thrombi in the left coronary system. Percutaneous intervention was not indicated, because the thrombi had occluded the distal segments of multiple coronary arteries.
