The appearance of the tongue has been a diagnos-tic feature in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)for 2,000 years. In contemporary TCM,observationof the tongue and other diagnostic criteria are usedto classify patients into 6 constitutional types.Thesetypes along with the specific complaints form thebasis of diagnosis and treatment. In order to presentthe system and test its applicability to a Westernpatient population,we examined 141 outpatients inthe Otolaryngology(ENT)clinic and categorizeddiagnostic features of their tongues. Each patientis assigned a constitutional type as well as a moreconventional ENT diagnosis.Signs of the tongueand behavioral patterns correspond to those observedin China. The prevalence of ENT diagnoses is dis-tributed proportionally among TCM types,so thereis little overlap in the main diagnostic features ofthe two systems. Many signs of the tongue are re-cognized in Western medicine, but their occurrenceis not associated with a systemic view of the patient'shealth.  相似文献

Female infertility is not uncommonly seenin gynecological clinics. Its causes are many, though chronic salpingitis is probably the mostfrequent. The usual treatment is by the applica-tion of anti-inflammation and adhesion-lyticdrugs,iodine iontophoresis and physical therapy.TCM considers female infertility caused bysalpingitis to be due to stagnation of vital energyand stasis of blood, and that the treatment in-dicated is by activation of blood circulation soas to eliminate the blood stasis. From December1981 to May 1982,a series of 40 cases of femaleinfertility were treated in our hospital mainly byadministering“peach-kernel mixture”through  相似文献

Epidemic parotiditis or mumps is anacute infectious disease caused by mumpsvirus. Its chief clinical manifestations are fe-ver, parotid gland swelling and distendingpain. It usually occurs in winter and spring, and children at ages 2--14 years old are vul-nerable to the disease. The external treat-ment of mumps by traditional Chinese med-icine (TCM) is simple and effective. Severalcommonly used methods of external treat-ment are introduced as follows:  相似文献

Adaptation is an eternal theme of biological evolution. The paper aims at exploring the conception of positive correlation between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and human homeostatic evolution based on medical perspective.Discussions mainly involve TCM conforming to natural laws and natural evolution of life, spontaneous harmonization of yin and yang and operating system of human self-healing,modem human immunology and human endogenous immune function in TCM,self-homeostasis of human micro-ecological state and balance mechanism on regulating base in TCM,as well as adaptation—eternal theme of biological evolution and safeguarding adaptability—value of TCM.In perspective of medicine, theory and practice of TCM are in positive correlation with human homeostatic evolution, and what TCM tries to maintain is human intrinsic adaptive capability to disease and nature. Therefore,it is the core value of TCM,which is to be further studied, explored, realized and known to the world.  相似文献

57 cases of chronic gastritis complicated by ulcerative colitis were clinicallyobserved.According to the TCM theory of differentiation of symptoms and signs,4types of the disease were divided and treated:1)stagnation of qi in the liver,2)dampness and heat in gastrointestinal tract,3)asthenic cold in the spleen andstomach, and 4)coexistence of cold and heat. The therapeutic effects of chronicgastritis and ulcerative colitis were evaluated:23 cases(40.3%)of chronic gastritiswere cured and 28 cases(49.1%)improved;25 cases(43.8%)of ulcerative colitiswere cured and 28 cases(49.1%)improved.The effective rates were 89.5% and93.0% respectively. The correlation between the therapeutic effects for these twodiseases further demonstrates that their pathological mechanisms are closely inter-related,indicating that it is important to have these two diseases treatedsimultaneously.  相似文献

The history of education and legislation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) and acupuncture in Canada is short. The first school of TCM opened its door to the general public in Canada in 1985 and the first legislation of acupuncture was introduced in Alberta,Canada in 1988.Currently,TCM and/or acupuncture have been regulated in five provinces in Canada. The legislation and regulation,as well as education of TCM and acupuncture vary among the five provinces in Canada.Opportunities and challenges facing TCM education exist simultaneously.Strategies are proposed to develop an international standard for TCM education in Canada, and possibly in other English speaking countries as well.  相似文献

There is a global movement calling for the integration of Western medicine (WM) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)[1].The World Health Organization suggests that health care would be improved by integrating traditional and complementary medicines into the practices of health care service delivery and self-health care[1].The WM and TCM are commonly integrated in the contemporary practice of medicine in China.About 90% of the general hospitals and 75% of health centers have TCM departments[2].Even in WM hospitals, around 40% of the medicines prescribed are TCM.Similarly,in the TCM hospitals 40% of all prescribed drugs are WM[3].Meanwhile,over 80% of Chinese patients have received TCM treatment at some point in their lives[2].However,differences exist in typical use of prescribed medications between WM and TCM and can result in the incorrect use, thus leading to concerns about the efficacy and safety of integrative treatment[4].  相似文献

According to TCM theory, the etiology ofcoronary heart disease(CHD)is deficiency ofQi and Blood stasis;therefore,Yiqihuoxue(re-plenishing the vital energy and invigorating theblood circulation)is the main therapeutic princi-ple for CHD.While the effects of Huoxue(in-vigorating the blood circulation)on CHD havebeen much studied, studies on effects of Yiqi(replenishing the vital energy)have been rare. The present work aims to investigate the effectsof Codonopsis Pilosula-Astragalus Injection(CP-A)on platelet aggregation(PA)and activity ofthe PGl_2-like substance.  相似文献

Ovulatory dysfunction is commonly seen in gynecology clinic,it may cause infertility, amenia, functional uterine bleeding and a variety of complications. This research according to TCM theory records treating with acupuncture 34 patients sufferingfrom ovulatory dysfunction.Changes in clinical symptoms and some relative targets are reported, plus findings in animal experiments. The effect of acupuncture in improving ovulation and therationale are discussed.According to TCM theory concerning the generative and physiologic axis of women, this re-search involved the following points:Ganshu(UB 18),Shenshu(UB 23),Guanyuan(Ren 4),Zhongji Ren 3),and Sanyinjiao(Sp 6).The reinforcement and reduction of acupuncture enablesit to strengthen liver and kidney.Through the Chong and Ren channels it nourishes uterus to ad-just the patient's axis function and recover ovulation.Treated on an average of 30 times, the patients'symptoms improved to varying degrees.Themarked effective rate was 35.29%,the total effective rate being 82.35%.BBT,VS,CMS,and Bultrasonic picture all improved to some degree. The results also showed that acupuncture may ad-just FSH,LH,and E_2 in two directions and raise the progesterone level, bringing them tonormal. The animal experiments confirmed this result. Results showed that acupuncture may ad-just endocrine function of the generative and physiologic axis of women, thus stinulatingovulation. The results of this research will provide some scientific basis for treating and further studying thisdisorder.  相似文献
