Granite exhibits obvious meso-geometric heterogeneity. To study the influence of grain size and preferred grain orientation on the damage evolution and mechanical properties of granite, as well as to reveal the inner link between grain size‚ preferred orientation, uniaxial tensile strength (UTS) and damage evolution, a series of Brazilian splitting tests were carried out based on the combined finite-discrete element method (FDEM), grain-based model (GBM) and inverse Monte Carlo (IMC) algorithm. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) Mineral grain significantly influences the crack propagation paths, and the GBM can capture the location of fracture section more accurately than the conventional model. (2) Shear cracks occur near the loading area, while tensile and tensile-shear mixed cracks occur far from the loading area. The applied stress must overcome the tensile strength of the grain interface contacts. (3) The UTS and the ratio of the number of intergrain tensile cracks to the number of intragrain tensile cracks are negatively related to the grain size. (4) With the increase of the preferred grain orientation, the UTS presents a “V-shaped” characteristic distribution. (5) During the whole process of splitting simulation, shear microcracks play the dominant role in energy release; particularly, they occur in later stage. This novel framework, which can reveal the control mechanism of brittle rock heterogeneity on continuous-discontinuous trans-scale fracture process and microscopic rock behaviour, provides an effective technology and numerical analysis method for characterizing rock meso-structure. Accordingly, the research results can provide a useful reference for the prediction of heterogeneous rock mechanical properties and the stability control of engineering rock masses.  相似文献

The vacuum hot-rolled SUS314/Q235 stainless steel clad plate has many drawbacks including serious interface alloy element diffusion, stainless steel cladding’s sensitization, and carbon steel substrate’s low strength. In this study, the comprehensive properties were systematically adjusted by changing the thickness of the Ni interlayer (0, 100, 200 μm) and the quenching temperature (1000~1150 °C). The results showed that the Ni interlayer can obviously hinder the diffusion of carbon element, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating the decarburized layer and reducing the carbon content of the carburized layer. Meanwhile, the perfect metallurgical bonding between the substrate and cladding can be obtained, effectively improving the stainless steel clad plate’s tensile shear strength and comprehensive mechanical properties, and significantly reduce the brittleness of the carburized layer. As the quenching temperature increases, the grains coarsening of carbon steel and stainless steel became more and more serious, and the sensitization phenomenon and the thickness of the carburized layer are gradually decreased. The stainless steel clad plate (Ni layer thickness of 100 μm) quenched at 1050 °C had the best comprehensive mechanical properties. Herein, the interface shear strength, tensile strength and the fracture elongation reached 360.5 MPa, 867 MPa and 16.10%, respectively, achieving strengthening and toughening aim. This is attributed to the disappearance of the sensitization phenomenon, the grain refinement and the lower interface residual stress.  相似文献

This study tested whether three different cement layer thicknesses (60, 120 and 180 μm) would provide the same bonding capacity between adhesively luted lithium disilicate and human dentin. Ceramic blocks were cut to 20 blocks with a low-speed diamond saw under cooling water and were then cemented to human flat dentin with an adhesive protocol. The assembly was sectioned into 1 mm2 cross-section beams composed of ceramic/cement/dentin. Cement layer thickness was measured, and three groups were formed. Half of the samples were immediately tested to evaluate the short-term bond strength and the other half were submitted to an aging simulation. The microtensile test was performed in a universal testing machine, and the bond strength (MPa) was calculated. The fractured specimens were examined under stereomicroscopy. Applying the finite element method, the residual stress of polymerization shrinkage according to cement layer thickness was also calculated using first principal stress as analysis criteria. Kruskal–Wallis tests showed that the ‘‘cement layer thickness’’ factor significantly influenced the bond strength results for the aged samples (p = 0.028); however, no statistically significant difference was found between the immediately tested groups (p = 0.569). The higher the cement layer thickness, the higher the residual stress generated at the adhesive interface due to cement polymerization shrinkage. In conclusion, the cement layer thickness does not affect the immediate bond strength in lithium disilicate restorations; however, thinner cement layers are most stable in the short term, showing constant bond strength and lower residual stress.  相似文献

B4C/TiB2 ceramic composites reinforced with three size scales (average particle size: 7 μm, 500 nm, and 50 nm) of TiB2 were prepared by using a pressureless sintering furnace at 2100 °C under Ar atmosphere for 60 min. The results demonstrated that during the sintering process, TiB2 located on the boundaries between different B4C grains could inhibit the grain growth which improved the mass transport mechanism and sintering driving force. A semi-coherent interface between B4C and SiC was found, which is supposed to help to reduce the interface energy and obtain good mechanical properties of the B4C/TiB2 ceramic composite. On sample cooling from sintering temperature to room temperature, the residual tensile stress fields formed at the TiB2 interfaces owning to the thermo-elastico properties mismatched, which might have contributed to increase the ability of the sample to resist crack propagation. The results showed that the relative density, Vickers hardness, and fracture toughness of the composite with 20 wt.% submicron and 10 wt.% nano-TiB2 were significantly improved, which were 98.6%, 30.2 GPa, and 5.47 MPa·m1/2, respectively.  相似文献

The molecular dynamics method was used to simulate the fracture process of monocrystalline silicon with different sizes of point defect under a constant strain rate. The mechanism of the defect size on the mechanical properties of monocrystalline silicon was also investigated. The results suggested that the point defect significantly reduces the yield strength of monocrystalline silicon. The relationships between the yield strength variation and the size of point defect fitted an exponential function. By statistically analyzing the internal stress in monocrystalline silicon, it was found that the stress concentration induced by the point defect led to the decrease in the yield strength. A comparison between the theoretical strength given by the four theories of strength and actual strength proved that the Mises theory was the best theory of strength to describe the yield strength of monocrystalline silicon. The dynamic evolution process of Mises stress and dislocation showed that the fracture was caused by the concentration effect of Mises stress and dislocation slip. Finally, the fractured microstructures were similar to a kind of two-dimensional grid which distributed along the cleavage planes while visualizing the specimens. The results of this article provide a reference for evaluating the size effects of point defects on the mechanical properties of monocrystalline silicon.  相似文献

In this paper, monotonic and cyclic loading/unloading tensile behavior of four different 3D needle-punched C/SiC composites are investigated. Under tensile loading, multiple micro parameters of tensile tangent modulus, tensile strength, and fracture strain are used to characterize tensile damage and fracture behavior. Under cyclic loading/unloading, multiple damage micro parameters of unloading residual strain, tensile peak strain, hysteresis loops width, hysteresis loops area, unloading and reloading inverse tangent modulus (ITM) are used to describe the tensile damage evolution. After tensile fracture, fracture surfaces were observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Damage of matrix cracking, interface debonding, fibers fracture and pullout in different plies is observed. Relationships between composite tensile mechanical behavior, damage parameters, and micro damage mechanisms are established. When the fiber volume fraction along the loading direction increases, the composite initial tangent modulus, tensile strength and fracture strain increase, and the unloading residual strain, peak strain, hysteresis width and hysteresis area decrease. For Types 1–4 3D needle-punched C/SiC composite, the fiber volume lies in the range of 25.6–32.8%, the composite initial tangent modulus was in the range of 161.4–220.4 GPa, the composite tensile strength was in the range of 64.4–112.3 MPa, and the composite fracture strain was in the range of 0.16–0.25%.  相似文献

The effect of heat treatment on tensile and low cycle fatigue properties of the oxygen-free copper for electric power equipment was investigated. The heat treatment at 850 °C for 20 min, which corresponds to the vacuum brazing process, caused the grain growth and relaxation of strain by recrystallization, and thus, the residual stress in the oxygen-free copper was reduced. The tensile strength and 0.2% proof stress were decreased, and elongation was increased by the heat treatment accompanying recrystallization. The plastic strain in the heat-treated specimen was increased compared with that in the untreated specimen under the same stress amplitude condition, and thus, the low cycle fatigue life of the oxygen-free copper was degraded by the heat treatment. Striation was observed in the crack initiation area of the fractured surface in the case of the stress amplitude less than 100 MPa regardless of the presence of the heat treatment. With an increase in the stress amplitude, the river pattern and the quasicleavage fracture were mainly observed in the fracture surfaces of the untreated specimens, and they were observed with striations in the fracture surfaces of the heat-treated ones. The result of the electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis showed that the grain reference orientation deviation (GROD) map was confirmed to be effective to investigate the fatigue damage degree in the grain by low cycle fatigue. In addition, the EBSD analysis revealed that the grains were deformed, and the GROD value reached approximately 28° in the fractured areas of heat-treated specimens after the low cycle fatigue test.  相似文献

Iron hollow sphere filled aluminum matrix syntactic foams (AMSFs) were produced by low pressure, inert gas assisted infiltration. The microstructure of the produced AMSFs was investigated by light and electron microscopy, extended by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron back-scattered diffraction. The investigations revealed almost perfect infiltration and a slight gradient in the grain size of the matrix. A very thin interface layer that ensures good bonding between the hollow spheres and the matrix was also observed. Compression tests were performed on cylindrical specimens to explore the characteristic mechanical properties of the AMSFs. Compared to other (conventional) metallic foams, the investigated AMSFs proved to have outstanding mechanical properties (yield strength, plateau strength, etc.) and energy absorbing capability.  相似文献

Isothermal annealing of a eutectic dual phase Ni–Mn–Sn–Fe alloy was carried out to encourage grain growth and investigate the effects of grain size of the γ phase on the martensitic transformation behaviour and mechanical properties of the alloy. It is found that with the increase of the annealing time, the grain size and volume fraction of the γ phase both increased with the annealing time predominantly by the inter-diffusion of Fe and Sn elements between the γ phase and the Heusler matrix. The isothermal anneals resulted in the decrease of the e/a ratio and suppression of the martensitic transformation of the matrix phase. The fine γ phase microstructure with an average grain size of 0.31 μm showed higher fracture strength and ductility values by 28% and 77% compared to the coarse-grained counterpart with an average grain size of 3.31 μm. The fine dual phase microstructure shows a quasi-linear superelasticity of 4.2% and very small stress hysteresis during cyclic loading, while the coarse dual phase counterpart presents degraded superelasticity of 2.6% and large stress hysteresis. These findings indicate that grain size refinement of the γ phase is an effective approach in improving the mechanical and transformation properties of dual phase Heusler alloys.  相似文献

To improve the loose structure and serious porosity of (Al–Zn–Mg–Cu) 7075 aluminum alloy laser-welded joints, aging treatment, double-sided ultrasonic impact treatment (DSUIT), and a combination of aging and DSUIT (A–DSUIT) were used to treat joints. In this experiment, the mechanism of A–DSUIT on the microstructure and properties of welded joints was analyzed. The microstructure of the welded joints was observed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The hardness and tensile properties of the welded components under the different processes were examined via Vickers hardness test and a universal tensile testing machine. The results showed that, after the aging treatment, the dendritic structure of the welded joints transformed into an equiaxed crystal structure. Moreover, the residual tensile stress generated in the welding process was weakened, and the hardness and tensile strength were significantly improved. After DSUIT, a plastic deformation layer of a certain thickness was generated from the surface downward, and the residual compressive stress was introduced to a certain depth of the joint. However, the weld zone unaffected by DSUIT still exhibited residual tensile stress. The inner microhardness of the joint surface improved; the impact surface hardness was the largest and gradually decreased inward to the weld zone base metal hardness, with a small improvement in the tensile strength. Compared with the single treatment process, the microstructural and mechanical properties of the welded joint after A–DSUIT were comprehensively improved. The microhardness and tensile strength of the welded joint reached 200 HV and 615 MPa, respectively, for an increase of 45.8% and 61.8%, respectively. Observation of the fractures of the tensile specimens under the different treatment processes showed that the fractures before the aging treatment were mainly ductile fractures while those after were mainly brittle fractures. After DSUIT of the welded joints, a clear and dense plastic deformation layer was observed in the fracture of the tensile specimens and effectively improved the tensile properties of the welded joints. Under the EBSD characterization, the larger the residual compressive stress near the ultrasonic impact surface, the smaller the grain diameter and misorientation angle, and the lower the texture strength. Finally, after A–DSUIT, the hardness and tensile properties improved the most.  相似文献

The understanding of the mechanical fixation behavior of coatings is crucial for a better comprehension of the bonding systems, especially at the interface between the mortar and the substrate. Physical adherence is related, among other things, to the contents of the materials used in the roughcast and mortar coatings, due to the colloidal water penetration into the pores of the substrate. This work evaluated the influence of different lime solution additions replacing the kneading water in the preparation of roughcast and mortar coatings. Two types of substrates were investigated:ceramic bricks and concrete blocks. Three wall masonry panels were constructed, with dimensions of 220 × 180 cm2, one of concrete block and two of ceramic bricks, followed by the application of roughcast and mortar coating with an average thickness of 5 mm and 20 mm, respectively. Direct tensile bond strength tests were performed and the results, with a 95% confidence level, showed that substrate ceramic and treatment in the roughcast exhibited a better behavior regarding the distribution of the tensile bond strength of the tested specimens. However, no significant differences of the amount of addition used (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%) on the tensile bond strength were observed.  相似文献

As the fatigue strength of metallic components may be affected by residual stress variation at small length scales, an evaluation method for studying residual stress at sub-mm scale is needed. The sin2ψ method using X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a common method to measure residual stress. However, this method has a lower limit on length scale. In the present study, a method using at a 2D XRD detector with ω-oscillation is proposed, and the measured residual stress obtained by the 2D method is compared to results obtained from the sin2ψ method and the slitting method. The results show that the 2D method can evaluate residual stress in areas with a diameter of 0.2 mm or less in a stainless steel with average grain size of 7 μm. The 2D method was further applied to assess residual stress in the stainless steel after treatment by laser cavitation peening (LCP). The diameter of the laser spot used for LCP was about 0.5 mm, and the stainless steel was treated with evenly spaced laser spots at 4 pulses/mm2. The 2D method revealed fluctuations of LCP-induced residual stress at sub-mm scale that are consistent with fluctuations in the height of the peened surface.  相似文献

Brittle materials such as rock and ceramic usually exhibit apparent increases of strength and toughness when subjected to dynamic loading. The reasons for this phenomenon are not yet well understood, although a number of hypotheses have been proposed. Based on dynamic fracture mechanics, the present work offers an alternate insight into the dynamic behaviors of brittle materials. Firstly, a single crack subjected to stress wave excitations is investigated to obtain the dynamic crack-tip stress field and the dynamic stress intensity factor. Second, based on the analysis of dynamic stress intensity factor, the fracture initiation sizes and crack size distribution under different loading rates are obtained, and the power law with the exponent of −2/3 is derived to describe the fracture initiation size. Third, with the help of the energy balance concept, the dynamic increase of material strength is directly derived based on the proposed multiple crack evolving criterion. Finally, the model prediction is compared with the dynamic impact experiments, and the model results agree well with the experimentally measured dynamic increasing factor (DIF).  相似文献

This study evaluated the microstructure, grain size, and mechanical properties of the alloy 800H rotary friction welds in as-welded and post-weld heat-treated conditions. The standards for the alloy 800H not only specify the composition and mechanical properties but also the minimum grain sizes. This is because these alloys are mostly used in creep resisting applications. The dynamic recrystallization of the highly strained and plasticized material during friction welding resulted in the fine grain structure (20 ± 2 µm) in the weld zone. However, a small increase in grain size was observed in the heat-affected zone of the weldment with a slight decrease in hardness compared to the base metal. Post-weld solution heat treatment (PWHT) of the friction weld joints increased the grain size (42 ± 4 µm) in the weld zone. Both as-welded and post-weld solution heat-treated friction weld joints failed in the heat-affected zone during the room temperature tensile testing and showed a lower yield strength and ultimate tensile strength than the base metal. A fracture analysis of the failed tensile samples revealed ductile fracture features. However, in high-temperature tensile testing, post-weld solution heat-treated joints exhibited superior elongation and strength compared to the as-welded joints due to the increase in the grain size of the weld metal. It was demonstrated in this study that the minimum grain size requirement of the alloy 800H friction weld joints could be successfully met by PWHT with improved strength and elongation, especially at high temperatures.  相似文献

The microstructures, tensile shear properties, and tensile shear fatigue properties of dissimilar A6061/Galvannealed steel joints fabricated by friction stir spot welding (FSSW) were investigated. Fe4Al13 phases form as the intermetallic compound (IMC) layer at the joint interface between the A6061 matrix and the galvannealed layer consisting of FeZn7, Fe, and Zn. At the edge of the joint, the stirred layer in which the A6061 matrix and the galvannealed layer are stirred also forms. Moreover, the solidified part of the residual melt discharged from the joint area forms at the outer peripheries of the joint. In this study, FSSW was conducted for two total welding durations: 9 and 10 s. Although the thickness of the remaining A6061 sheet in the welded area decreased with an increase in the welding time, the effects of the total welding time on tensile shear and tensile shear fatigue properties were negligible. A fatigue fracture occurred in the A6061 matrix and at the joint interface at the high cycle fatigue region and the low cycle fatigue region, respectively. In the case of the interfacial fracture, the crack was generated in the solidified part of the residual melt or at the interface between the solidified part and the stirred layer.  相似文献

Pure BiFeO3 (BFO) and doped Bi0.9La0.1FeO3 (BLFO) thin films were prepared on Pt/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates by a modified sol–gel technique using a separate hydrolysis procedure. The effects of final crystallization temperature and La doping on the phase structure, film morphology, and nanoscale piezoelectric properties were investigated. La doping and higher crystallization temperature lead to an increase in the grain size and preferred (102) texture of the films. Simultaneously, a decrease in the average effective piezoelectric coefficient (about 2 times in La-doped films) and an increase in the area of surface non-polar phase (up to 60%) are observed. Phase separation on the films’ surface is attributed to either a second phase or to a non-polar perovskite phase at the surface. As compared with undoped BFO, La-doping leads to an increase in the average grain size and self-polarization that is important for future piezoelectric applications. It is shown that piezoelectric activity is directly related to the films’ microstructructure, thus emphasizing the role of annealing conditions and La-doping that is frequently used to decrease the leakage current in BFO-based materials.  相似文献

Pure polycrystalline cobalt is systematically thermally treated in order to assess the effect of the microstructure on the compression behavior. Isothermal annealing of the as-drawn material leads to recrystallization and grain growth dependent on the annealing temperature (600–1100 C). Consequently, the yield strength decreases and the fracture strain increases as a function of rising grain size; the content of the residual fcc phase is ~6–11%. Subsequent thermal cycling around the transition temperature is applied to further modify the microstructure, especially in terms of the fcc phase content. With the increasing number of cycles, the grain size further increases and the fraction of the fcc phase significantly drops. At the same time, the values of both the yield strength and fracture strain somewhat decrease. An atypical decrease in the fracture strain as a function of grain size is explained in terms of decreasing fcc phase content; the stress-induced fcc→hcp transformation can accommodate a significant amount of plastic strain. Besides controlling basic material parameters (e.g., grain size and texture), adjusting the content of the fcc phase can thus provide an effective means of mechanical performance optimization with respect to particular applications.  相似文献

In this paper, an integrated numerical model is proposed to investigate the effects of particulate size and volume fraction on the deformation, damage, and failure behaviors of particulate-reinforced metal matrix composites (PRMMCs). In the framework of a random microstructure-based finite element modelling, the plastic deformation and ductile cracking of the matrix are, respectively, modelled using Johnson–Cook constitutive relation and Johnson–Cook ductile fracture model. The matrix-particle interface decohesion is simulated by employing the surface-based-cohesive zone method, while the particulate fracture is manipulated by the elastic–brittle cracking model, in which the damage evolution criterion depends on the fracture energy cracking criterion. A 2D nonlinear finite element model was developed using ABAQUS/Explicit commercial program for modelling and analyzing damage mechanisms of silicon carbide reinforced aluminum matrix composites. The predicted results have shown a good agreement with the experimental data in the forms of true stress–strain curves and failure shape. Unlike the existing models, the influence of the volume fraction and size of SiC particles on the deformation, damage mechanism, failure consequences, and stress–strain curve of A359/SiC particulate composites is investigated accounting for the different possible modes of failure simultaneously.  相似文献

Al thin film is extensively used in micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and electronic interconnections; however, most previous research has concentrated on their quasi-static properties and applied their designs on larger scales. The present study designed a paddle-like cantilever specimen with metal films deposited on the upper surface to investigate the quasi-static properties of Al thin film at room temperature under high vacuum conditions at microscopic scales. Energy loss was determined using a decay technique in the oscillation amplitude of a vibrating structure following resonant excitation. Grain size and film thickness size were strictly controlled considering the quasi-static properties of the films. This study found that the internal friction of ultra-thin and thin Al films was more dependent on the grain boundaries than film thickness.  相似文献

Lu2O3:Eu3+ transparent, high density, and optical quality thin films were prepared using the sol-gel dip-coating technique, starting with lutetium and europium nitrates as precursors and followed by hydrolysis in an ethanol-ethylene glycol solution. Acetic acid and acetylacetonate were incorporated in order to adjust pH and as a sol stabilizer. In order to increment the thickness of the films and orient the structure, F127 Pluronic acid was incorporated during the sol formation. Structural, morphological, and optical properties of the films were investigated for different F127/Lu molar ratios (0–5) in order to obtain high optical quality films with enhanced thickness compared with the traditional method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the films present a highly oriented cubic structure <111> beyond 1073 K for a 3-layer film, on silica glass substrates. The thickness, density, porosity, and refractive index evolution of the films were investigated by means of m-lines microscopy along with the morphology by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and luminescent properties.  相似文献
