Context: Tobacco smoking represents a global public health threat, claiming approximately 5 million lives a year. Waterpipe tobacco use has become popular particularly among youth in the past decade, buttressed by the perception that the waterpipe “filters” the smoke, rendering it less harmful than cigarette smoke.

Objective: In this study, we examined the acute exposure of waterpipe smoking on lung inflammation and oxidative stress in mice, and compared that to cigarette smoking.

Materials and methods: Mice were divided into three groups; fresh air control, cigarette and waterpipe. Animals were exposed to fresh air, cigarette, or waterpipe smoke using whole body exposure system one hour daily for 7 days.

Results: Both cigarette and waterpipe smoke exposure resulted in elevation of total white blood cell count, as well as absolute count of neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes (P < 0.01). Both exposures also elevated proinflammatory markers such as TNF-α and IL-6 in BALF (P < 0.05), and oxidative stress markers including GPx activity in lungs (P < 0.05). Moreover, waterpipe smoke increased catalase activity in the lung (P < 0.05). However, none of the treatments altered IL-10 levels.

Discussion and conclusion: Results of cigarette smoking confirmed previous finding. Waterpipe results indicate that, similar to cigarettes, exposure to waterpipe tobacco smoke is harmful to the lungs.  相似文献

Background: Waterpipe smoking is becoming a popular way of tobacco use in the world. Its acute effects on the cardiovascular system are not well investigated.

Materials and methods: This is a trial designed to evaluate the acute effects of waterpipe smoking on blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in healthy adults. Individuals who ordered waterpipe in 6 Lebanese restaurants were enrolled (cases) and were compared to controls who consisted of subjects who were sitting at the same table of smokers but who did not smoke (passive smokers) and of subjects who were sitting in nonsmoking sections (nonsmokers). BP and HR were measured immediately before and 15?min after smoking or at baseline and 15?min later in controls.

Results: A total of 194 subjects were enrolled: 101 waterpipe smokers, 51 passive smokers, and 42 nonsmokers. Systolic and diastolic BP and HR significantly increased after 15?min of smoking in cases (mean 3.1?mm Hg (95% CI 0.8–5.5; p?=?0.009) for systolic BP, 2.1?mm Hg (95% CI 0–4.2; p?=?0.053) for diastolic BP, and 6.3 beats/minute (95% CI 4.3–8.3; p?<?0.001) for HR, but did not change in controls.

Conclusions: Waterpipe smoking for duration as short as 15?min has acute hemodynamic effects and significantly increases systolic BP and HR.  相似文献

IntroductionWaterpipe smoking has become increasingly popular in adolescents. We examined the association of waterpipe smoking with cigarette smoking susceptibility and nicotine dependence among adolescents in Hong Kong.MethodsWe analyzed the data of School-based Survey on Smoking among Students 2012/13 from a representative sample of 45,857 secondary school students (US grades 7–12) in Hong Kong. Among never cigarette smokers (n = 37,740), we conducted chi-square test to compare cigarette smoking susceptibility by current (past 30-day) waterpipe smoking status, and used multivariate logistic regression to examine the association between current waterpipe smoking and cigarette smoking susceptibility controlling for age, sex, peer cigarette smoking, and living with a cigarette smoker. Then we conducted chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression among current cigarette smokers (n = 1694) to examine the relationship of current waterpipe smoking with two nicotine dependence outcomes, including heavier smoking (≥ 5 cigarettes/day) and first cigarette within 30 min of waking, controlling for demographics and the number of smoking days in the past 30 days.ResultsAmong never cigarette smokers, current waterpipe use was associated with cigarette smoking susceptibility (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 3.58, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.61–7.97). Of current cigarette smokers, waterpipe use was associated with heavier smoking (AOR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.00–2.43) and first cigarette within 30 min of waking (AOR = 2.08, 95% CI: 1.35–3.19).ConclusionsSurveillance, prevention, and intervention programs should address waterpipe use in addition to cigarette smoking. Educational programs need to inform youth about the harmful and addictive effects of waterpipe smoking. Public health campaigns deglamourizing waterpipe use may help reduce waterpipe smoking among youth.  相似文献

Background: Elevated uric acid (UA) is a recognized risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to investigate whether this association exists in dyslipidemic patients receiving multifactorial treatment.

Methods: An observational study conducted in Greece including 1,269 dyslipidemic individuals followed-up in a lipid clinic for ≥3 years. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated by CKD-EPI equation and CKD was defined as ≤60?mL/min/1.73 m2. The correlation was assessed between UA levels and the CKD risk after adjusting for potential confounding factors, after defining the following UA quartiles: Q1: ?6?mg/dL.

Results: After excluding patients with baseline eGFR <60?mL/min/1.73 m2, gout and those taking UA-lowering drugs, 1,095 individuals were eligible; of those, 91% and 69% were treated with statins and anti-hypertensive drugs, respectively. During their follow-up (6 years; IQR?=?4–10), 11.9% of the subjects developed CKD, whereas the median annual eGFR decline was 0.69?mL/min/1.73 m2 (IQR?=?0.45–2.33). Multivariate analysis showed that baseline UA levels (HR?=?1.26; 95% CI?=?1.09–1.45, p?=?.001), female gender (HR?=?1.74; 95% CI?=?1.14–2.65, p?=?.01), age (HR?=?1.10; 95% CI?=?1.07–1.12, p?p?=?.03), cardiovascular disease (HR?=?1.62; 95% CI?=?1.02–2.58, p?=?.04), decreased baseline renal function (eGFR <90?mL/min/1.73 m2) (HR?=?2.38; 95% CI?=?1.14–4.81, p?=?.02), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol reduction (HR?=?0.995; 95% CI?=?0.991–0.998, p?=?.01) were associated with incident CKD. Additionally, patients with UA ≥6?mg/dL exhibited a higher risk of incident CKD compared with those in the lowest UA quartile (HR?=?2.01; 95% CI?=?1.11–3.65, p?=?.02).

Conclusion: Higher UA levels are correlated with a higher risk of incident CKD in dyslipidemic individuals taking multifactorial treatment.  相似文献

Objective: In the four SMILE (Survival of Myocardial Infarction Long-Term Evaluation) studies, early administration of zofenopril in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) showed beneficial effects as compared to placebo and other angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs). This study investigated whether the concomitant administration of the dihydropyridine calcium channel-blocker amlodipine may improve zofenopril efficacy to prevent cardiovascular events in post-AMI patients.

Methods: This was a post-hoc analysis of pooled individual patient data from the four large randomized SMILE studies. The primary endpoint was the 1-year combined occurrence of death or hospitalization for cardiovascular causes.

Results: In total, 3488 patients were considered, 303 (8.7%) treated with concomitant amlodipine. Baseline systolic blood pressure and prevalence of metabolic syndrome were higher in amlodipine treated patients. The 1-year occurrence of major cardiovascular outcomes was significantly reduced in patients receiving concomitant treatment with amlodipine (hazard ratio, HR?=?0.66; and 95% confidence interval, CI?=?0.44–0.98; p?=?.039). After accounting for treatment with amlodipine, the risk of cardiovascular events was significantly reduced with zofenopril compared to placebo (HR?=?0.78; 95% CI?=?0.63–0.97; p?=?.026]. Among ACEI-treated patients, the zofenopril plus amlodipine combination reduced the risk of cardiovascular events by 38%, compared to the combination of other ACEIs plus amlodipine [HR?=?0.76; 95% CI?=?0.61–0.94); p?=?.013). The prognostic benefit of concomitant treatment with zofenopril plus amlodipine was independent from blood pressure lowering.

Conclusions: Zofenopril had a positive impact on prognosis in post-AMI patients, compared to other ACEIs. Concomitant administration of amlodipine may help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events at 1?year.  相似文献

Abstract

Introduction: Smoking is known to have physiological effects on biological systems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate acute and chronic effects on pulmonary functions and cardiovascular indices of waterpipe (WP) smoking in real life circumstances.

Methods: Three groups were included in the study: non-smokers (N?=?42), WP smokers (N?=?42) and cigarette smokers (N?=?48). A questionnaire was completed for each participant, in addition to pulmonary function [forced expiratory volume at 1?s (FEV1), 6?s (FEV6), percentage of FEV1/FEV6], and cardiovascular [diastolic blood pressure (DBP), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate (HR)] measures, taken before and after smoking.

Results: Mean values of FEV1, FEV6, FEV1/FEV6, DBP and SBP in WP and cigarette smokers were very close. However, WP smoking significantly increased HR compared to cigarette smokers (p?=?0.007); duration of smoking, age at first WP and quantity of smoking affected pulmonary function and cardiovascular values. In the subgroup of WP smokers, DBP was acutely increased by a larger WP size (p?=?0.011), while the FEV6 was acutely increased by a smaller WP size (p?=?0.045).

Conclusion: WP smoking affected the cardiovascular system more than cigarette smoking, while it had similar effects on pulmonary function.  相似文献

Associations between the emerging trend of waterpipe tobacco smoking and mental health among college students have not been sufficiently explored. This study analyzed data collected from 152 academic institutions that participated in the National College Health Assessment during the 2008–2009 academic year to examine associations between mental health and waterpipe tobacco smoking among college students (N = 100,891). For comparison, cigarette smoking was also examined. Associations with mental health variables were very strong for cigarette smoking but only moderate for waterpipe smoking. Aims: Concerns about acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) after hysterosalpingography (HSG) have been raised since 1980. However, the effectiveness of prophylactic antibiotics remains unclear. This study investigated the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis in women undergoing HSG.

Methods: Women undergoing HSG between 2000 and 2012 were screened from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database for eligibility. The prophylactic cohort included patients using any antibiotics of 1st-generation cephalosporins, doxycycline, clindamycin, and metronidazole, within 7 days before HSG (n?=?3257). Patients not using any antibiotics were registered as the non-prophylactic cohort (n?=?4662). An unconditional logistic regression model was applied to calculate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of acute PID after HSG associated with prophylactic antibiotics.

Results: The cumulative incidences of acute PID after HSG were 0.46% and 1.42% in the prophylactic and non-prophylactic cohorts, respectively. Prophylactic patients had a significantly reduced estimated relative risk of acute PID compared with non-prophylactic patients (adjusted OR?=?0.33, 95% CI?=?0.19–0.58; p?=?.001). Doxycycline users had the lowest adjusted OR of 0.20 (95% CI?=?0.04–0.81; p?=?.02), followed by users of 1st-generation cephalosporins (adjusted OR?=?0.35, 95% CI?=?0.18–0.68; p?=?.002). Multivariate sub-group analysis verified this protective effect for almost all sub-groups of prophylactic patients.

Conclusions: Antibiotic prophylaxis is associated with a decreased estimated relative risk of acute PID in HSG patients. Doxycycline and 1st-generation cephalosporins may be effective prophylactic regimens for HSG.  相似文献

Background: Between 2005 and 2015, the prevalence of smoking among US adults has decreased for all age subgroups, except those aged 65 and older.

Aim: In order to identify potential correlates of smoking behaviors in older adults, this research examined associations between age, smoking beliefs, and quitline utilization.

Methods: Self-reported, nationally representative data from the Health Information National Trends Survey 2015 cycle (HINTS-FDA) were used (n?=?3738). Multivariable logistic regression analyses examined associations between sociodemographic characteristics and beliefs about smoking behaviors. All analyses were conducted with jackknife estimation using sampling weights.

Results: Among all survey respondents, 10.5% of those aged 65+ were current smokers (smoked 100 lifetime cigarettes and currently smoked every day or some days). These older adults, compared to those aged 18–29 years, had significantly higher odds of agreeing that smoking behavior is something one can do little to change (AOR?=?1.89, 95% CI =1.08, 3.28) and agreeing that nicotine is the substance that causes cancer (AOR?=?3.93, 95% CI?=?2.17, 7.12). Post hoc analyses compared midlife adults (ages 50–64) with older adults (ages 65+), and indicated older adults had lower odds of having used a quitline/smoking cessation website (AOR?=?0.36, 95% CI?=?0.14, 0.94, p?=?0.04) compared to their midlife peers.

Discussion: US adults aged 65 and older hold erroneous beliefs about cigarette smoking behaviors and are less likely to utilize quitline supports. This may be contributing to the stagnant smoking rates among older adults. Smoking cessation efforts targeting older adult Americans are critical in order to stem tobacco use among all Americans.  相似文献

Objective: This observational study compared the risk of hospitalization for patients with bipolar disorder when treated with lurasidone versus other oral atypical antipsychotics.

Methods: This US commercial claims analysis (4 April 2010 through 24 September 2014) used the Optum Research Database to identify adult patients with bipolar disorder treated with oral atypical antipsychotics (N?=?11,132). The first claim for an atypical antipsychotic defined the index date, with pre-index and post-index periods of 180 and 360 days, respectively. Every month of the post-index period was categorized as monotherapy treatment with lurasidone, aripiprazole, olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, ziprasidone, no/minimal treatment or other. Starting with the initial month of treatment, the risk of psychiatric or all-cause hospitalization in the subsequent month was examined based on treatment in the current month and pre-index covariates (age, gender, hospitalizations, emergency room visits, diagnoses for anxiety, alcohol abuse, substance abuse, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and obesity) and time-varying versions of the pre-index covariates using a marginal structural model.

Results: After controlling for covariates, relative to lurasidone, the odds of psychiatric and all-cause hospitalization, respectively, were 2–3 times higher for olanzapine (odds ratio [OR]?=?2.78, CI 1.09, 7.08, p?=?.032; OR?=?3.20, CI 1.24, 8.26, p?=?.016), quetiapine (OR?=?2.80, CI 1.13, 6.95, p?=?.026; OR?=?3.23, CI 1.29, 8.11, p?=?.013), risperidone (OR?=?2.50, CI 1.01, 6.21, p?=?.048; OR?=?2.79, CI 1.11, 7.02, p?=?.029), aripiprazole (OR?=?2.13, CI 0.87, 5.20, p?=?.097; OR?=?2.57, CI 1.04, 6.37, p?=?.041) and ziprasidone (OR =2.31, CI 0.91, 5.85, p?=?.079; OR?=?2.49, CI 0.97, 6.40, p?=?.058).

Conclusions: In this claims database analysis, lurasidone-treated patients with bipolar disorder had a significantly lower risk of psychiatric hospitalization compared to quetiapine, olanzapine and risperidone, but not aripiprazole or ziprasidone. Lurasidone-treated patients had a significantly lower risk of all-cause hospitalization compared to quetiapine, olanzapine, risperidone and aripiprazole, but not ziprasidone.  相似文献

Background: Limited accessibility to providers may delay appropriate control of asthma exacerbations. The objective of our study is to estimate the contributors to the hospital/emergency department (ED) visits among adults with asthma focusing on the availability of healthcare providers.

Methods: We conducted a pooled cross-sectional analysis using the 2011–2013 Asthma Call-Back Survey linked with 2012–2016 Area Health Resource Files. We employed multivariable logistic regression with dichotomous outcomes of hospitalization and ED visits. Key covariates were the availability of county-level healthcare provider variables per 100,000 persons such as the number of lung disease specialists (including pulmonary care specialists, and allergy and immunology specialists), the number of hospitals, the number of safety-net facilities including rural health centers (RHCs) and federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), and the number of primary care physicians (PCPs).

Results: Among 25,621 adults, proportions of hospital visits and ED visits were 3.3% and 13.2%, respectively. An additional RHC reduced by 3% the odds of having an ED visit (odds ratio [OR]?=?0.97, p?=?.004). Patients with cost barriers to seeing a PCP were 60% (OR?=?1.60, p?=?.028) more likely to have a hospital visit than those without. In addition, patients with cost barriers to seeing a specialist were 90% (OR?=?1.90, p?=?.007) and 111% (OR?=?2.11, p?=?.001) more likely to have a hospital visit and ED visit, respectively, than those without.

Conclusions: Hospital and ED visits among adults with asthma are partially related to the availability of providers, and more related to financial barriers. Therefore, financial support for the vulnerable asthma population might be a target for policy makers interested in reducing hospitalizations and ED visits.  相似文献

Objective: To assess efficacy and safety of tapentadol prolonged release (PR) for moderate-to-severe chronic osteoarthritis knee pain.

Methods: Patients (n?=?990) were randomized (1:1:1) to tapentadol PR, oxycodone controlled release (CR; reference compound for assay sensitivity), or placebo for a double-blind 3-week titration and 12-week maintenance period. Primary efficacy end-points were change from baseline in average pain intensity at week 12 of maintenance (US end-point) and over the entire maintenance period (non-US end-point) with “last observation carried forward” as imputation method for missing scores.

Results: Both primary end-points were not significantly different for tapentadol PR nor for oxycodone CR vs placebo at week 12 (least squares [LS] mean difference?=?–0.3 [95% CI?=?–0.61–0.09]; p?=?0.152 and 0.2 [95% CI?=?–0.16–0.54]; p?=?0.279, respectively) and over the maintenance period (LS mean difference?=?–0.2 [95% CI?=?–0.55–0.07]; p?=?0.135 and 0.1 [95% CI?=?–0.18–0.44]; p?=?0.421, respectively). Considerably more patients receiving tapentadol PR than oxycodone CR completed the trial (58.3% vs 36.6%). This is consistent with better results with tapentadol PR on the overall health status (PGIC) compared to oxycodone CR. Indeed, respectively, 56% and 42.5% rated at least “much improved” at the end of treatment. Incidences of gastrointestinal adverse events were higher for both active treatments compared to placebo. Tapentadol PR was associated with a better gastrointestinal tolerability profile with incidences of constipation (17.9% vs 35%) and of the composite of nausea and/or vomiting (23.8% vs 46.8%) significantly lower vs oxycodone CR (p?Conclusions: The study did not demonstrate assay sensitivity. The finding that both primary end-points for tapentadol PR were not met can, thus, not be interpreted. Tapentadol PR was better tolerated than oxycodone CR, largely due to fewer gastrointestinal side-effects.  相似文献

Objective: To evaluate intravenous (IV) acetaminophen (APAP) vs oral APAP use as adjunctive analgesics in cholecystectomy patients by comparing associated hospital length of stay (LOS), hospital costs, opioid use, and rates of nausea/vomiting, respiratory depression, and bowel obstruction.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the Premier Database (January 2012 to September 2015) including cholecystectomy patients who received either IV APAP or oral APAP. Differences in LOS, hospitalization costs, mean daily morphine equivalent dose (MED), and potential opioid-related adverse events were estimated. Multivariable logistic regression was performed for the binary outcomes and instrumental variable regressions, using the quarterly rate of IV APAP use for all hospitalizations by hospital as the instrument in two-stage least squares regressions for continuous outcomes. Models were adjusted for patient demographics, clinical risk factors, and hospital characteristics.

Results: Among 61,017 cholecystectomy patients, 31,133 (51%) received IV APAP. Subjects averaged 51 and 57 years of age, respectively, in the IV and oral APAP cohorts. In the adjusted models, IV APAP was associated with 0.42 days shorter LOS (95% CI?=?–0.58 to –0.27; p?p?p?=?.0005), and lower rates of respiratory depression (odds ratio [OR]?=?0.89, 95% CI?=?0.82–0.97; p?=?.006), and nausea and vomiting (OR?=?0.86, 95% CI?=?0.86–0.86; p?Conclusions: In patients having cholecystectomy, the addition of IV APAP to perioperative pain management is associated with shorter LOS, lower costs, reduced opioid use, and less frequent nausea/vomiting and respiratory depression compared to oral APAP. Waterpipe smoking among Danish, Swedish, and German youth is increasing dramatically, indicating the emergence of a new health threat. This study assessed the association between waterpipe smoking and progression to regular cigarette smoking among Danish continuation school students during 2004–2005. All participants (N = 762) had smoked cigarettes on a nonregular basis at baseline. Among boys, waterpipe smoking frequency was predictive of being a regular cigarette smoker at follow-up eight months later. Further research should examine waterpipe smoking as a potential predictor of cigarette smoking. The study's limitations are noted.  相似文献

Objective:

New P2Y12 inhibitors, classified as oral (prasugrel and ticagrelor) and intravenous (cangrelor and elinogrel) drugs, have shown improved antithrombotic effects compared with clopidogrel in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in landmark trials. The purpose of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of randomized trials that compared new P2Y12 inhibitors with clopidogrel to determine their efficacy and safety in patients undergoing PCI.

Methods:

Randomized controlled trials of at least 4 weeks, comparing new P2Y12 inhibitors with clopidogrel in PCI, were identified using the electronic databases Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medline, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar from January 1, 1980, to July 31, 2014.

Main outcome measures:

The primary efficacy endpoints were all-cause death and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). The primary safety endpoint was thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) major bleeding.

Results:

Twelve studies including 71,097 patients met the inclusion criteria. New P2Y12 inhibitors significantly reduced all-cause death (odds ratio [OR]: 0.81; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.73–0.90, p?p?p?p?=?0.03) and cardiovascular death (OR 0.82; 95% CI 0.73–0.92, p?=?0.001) compared with clopidogrel. There were no significant differences between stroke (OR 0.87; 95% CI 0.72–1.05, p?=?0.14) and major bleeding events (OR 1.22; 95% CI 0.99–1.52, p?=?0.06) between the new P2Y12 inhibitor and clopidogrel groups.

Conclusion:

New P2Y12 inhibitors decreased death in patients undergoing PCI compared with clopidogrel with a considerable safety and tolerability profile; however, the risk/benefit ratio of ischemic and bleeding events should be further investigated.  相似文献

Abstract

Context: Waterpipe smoke causes DNA damage in peripheral blood leukocytes and in buccal cells of smokers.

Objective: To determine the exposure effect of waterpipe smoke on buccal cells and peripheral blood leukocytes in regard to DNA damage using comet assay.

Materials and methods: The waterpipe smoke condensates were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The study was performed on 20 waterpipe smokers. To perform comet assay on bucaal cells of smokers, 10?µl of cell suspension was mixed with 85?µl of pre-warmed 1% low melting agarose, applied to comet slide and electrophoresed. To analyze the effect of smoke condensate in vitro, 1?ml of peripheral blood was mixed with 10?µl of smoke condensate and subjected for comet assay.

Results: The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4on, nicotine, hydroxymethyl furancarboxaldehyde and 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde in the smoke condensates. Waterpipe smoking caused DNA damage in vivo in buccal cells of smokers. The tail moment and tail length in buccal cells of smokers were 186?±?26 and 456?±?71, respectively, which are higher than control. The jurak and moassel smoke condensates were found to cause DNA damage in peripheral blood leukocytes. The moassel smoke condensate was more damaging.

Discussion: There is wide misconception that waterpipe smoking is not as harmful as cigarette smoking. This study demonstrated that waterpipe smoke induced DNA damage in exposed cells.

Conclusion: Waterpipe smokes cause DNA damage in buccal cells. The smoke condensate of both jurak and moassel caused comet formation suggesting DNA damage in peripheral blood leukocytes.  相似文献

Abstract

Background: Tobacco cigarette smoking is a global health problem that kills millions each year. Recently, tobacco smoking using a waterpipe (WP) has become popular worldwide. However, unlike cigarettes, the cardiovascular (CV) risks associated with WP smoking are uncertain. In this study, the immediate effects of WP smoking on central and peripheral CV indices were evaluated in 53 young healthy smokers.

Materials and methods: Strain-gauge plethysmography was used to measure forearm blood flow (Bf), vascular resistance (Vr), and venous capacitance (Vc) and outflow (Vf) at rest (R) and after occlusion (Oc), whereas heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP) were measured using standard automated auscultatory methods immediately before and after a 30-min WP smoking session.

Results: Smoking resulted in HR, diastolic BP, mean arterial BP, rate pressure product and OcVr increases (p?<?0.05) 6.6, 3.6, 2.5, 8.0 and 16%, respectively, whereas OcBf and OcVf decreased (p?<?0.05) 8.8 and 14.3%, respectively. Additionally, smoking-induced changes in the central CV components correlated (p?<?0.05) with changes in the periphery.

Conclusion: These results demonstrated changes in the CV central and peripheral components immediately after WP smoking. The correlations between the changes in these components suggest that the periphery is controlled, at least partially, by the same mechanism(s) affecting the central CV components during WP smoking.  相似文献
