Purpose

The aim of the study was to undertake the process of cultural adaptation of the Brace Questionnaire (BrQ) into Polish.

Methods

The BrQ is an instrument for measuring the quality of life of scoliotic adolescents who are being treated conservatively with wearing a corrective brace. The BrQ consists of 34 Likert-scale items related to eight domains. The translation from the original Greek into Polish was performed. The process of cultural adaptation of the questionnaire was in accordance with the guidelines of the International Quality of Life Assessment Project. It involved 35 adolescents, aged between 10.0 and 16.0 years, all with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with mean Cobb angle of 35.1 ± 10.6 degrees, and all wearing the same kind of brace (Chêneau orthosis) for more than 3 months. Statistical analysis calculated the reliability (internal consistency), floor and ceiling effects of the BrQ.

Results

The internal consistency was satisfactory; Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.94. There was no floor or ceiling effects.

Conclusions

Polish version of the BrQ is reliable and can be used in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis wearing the brace to assess their quality of life.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The anesthesia information sheet used in our hospital describes the anesthetic management and complications in a simple style. Patients scheduled for operations receive it from their doctor with some explanation about anesthesia. The written informed consent on the sheet is obtained from the patients. METHODS: One hundred and one patients undergoing elective operations were interviewed after receiving explanations during the anesthesiologist's preoperative rounds. RESULTS: From this survey, 85% of the patients read it before the anesthesiologist's preoperative rounds and 75% of them understood the contents. After the anesthesiologist's explanation, 94% of the patients who had read it understood enough. About a third of the patients who had read the information sheet had anxiety about anesthesia. After the anesthesiologist's explanation, the percentage of patients who had anxiety decreased to 8%. 98% of the patients who read the information sheet answered that it should be read before the anesthesiologist's preoperative rounds. CONCLUSIONS: In view of this survey we concluded that reading the information sheet before the anesthesiologist's preoperative rounds is useful to increase the patients understanding of anesthesia.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the reliability, validity, and sensitivity of the Patient-rated Tennis Elbow Evaluation (PRTEE) Questionnaire in 78 tennis playing subjects who had chronic, unilateral, MRI-confirmed lateral elbow tendinopathy and who concomitantly participated in an outcome study. The PRTEE results were compared with results of the Visual Analog Scale (VAS); the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) Questionnaire; the Roles and Maudsley score; and the Upper Extremity Function Scale. Questionnaires were completed at baseline and 12 weeks. Reliability and internal consistency were excellent (PRTEE pain subscale, 0.94; PRTEE specific activities subscale, 0.93; PRTEE usual activities, 0.85). Correlations were good between the PRTEE subscales and total scale and the VAS and DASH. Standardized response means (SRM) were higher in the PRTEE (SRM = 2.1) than in the other outcome measures (SRM, 1.5–1.7). The PRTEE was a reliable, reproducible, and sensitive instrument for assessment of chronic lateral elbow tendinopathy in a tennis playing cohort. It was at least as sensitive to change as the other outcome tools tested. The PRTEE may become the standard primary outcome measure in research of tennis elbow.  相似文献

This study evaluates the Quantification de L’Activite Physique en Altitude chez les Enfants (QAPACE) supervised self-administered questionnaire reproducibility and validity on the estimation of the mean daily energy expenditure (DEE) on Bogotá’s schoolchildren. The comprehension was assessed on 324 students, whereas the reproducibility was studied on a different random sample of 162 who were exposed twice to it. Reproducibility was assessed using both the Bland-Altman plot and the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). The validity was studied in a sample of 18 girls and 18 boys randomly selected, which completed the test - re-test study. The DEE derived from the questionnaire was compared with the laboratory measurement results of the peak oxygen uptake (Peak VO2) from ergo-spirometry and Leger Test. The reproducibility ICC was 0.96 (95% C.I. 0.95-0.97); by age categories 8-10, 0.94 (0.89-0. 97); 11-13, 0.98 (0.96- 0.99); 14-16, 0.95 (0.91-0.98). The ICC between mean TEE as estimated by the questionnaire and the direct and indirect Peak VO2 was 0.76 (0.66) (p<0.01); by age categories, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16 were 0.89 (0.87), 0.76 (0.78) and 0.88 (0.80) respectively. The QAPACE questionnaire is reproducible and valid for estimating PA and showed a high correlation with the Peak VO2 uptake.

Key points

  • The presence of a supervisor, the limited size of the group with the possibility of answering to their questions could explain the high reproducibility for this questionnaire.
  • No study in the literature had directly addressed the issue of estimating a yearly average PA including school and vacation period.
  • A two step procedure, in the population of schoolchildren of Bogotá, gives confidence in the use of the QAPACE questionnaire in a large epidemiological survey in related populations.
