| Abstract: | Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's disease and
ulcerative colitis, is characterized by chronic recurrent bowel disease. The cause of the disease is
currently unknown, and there are no effective targeted drugs at the moment, so it's really hard to
completely cure the patients. Propolis is a kind of natural mixture with various biological activities
and pharmacological effects. Studies have shown that polyphenol-rich propolis extracts exhibit
significant anti-inflammatory effects, possibly blocking inflammatory responses by regulating the
production of key inflammatory mediators. Therefore, propolis is expected to become a new
treatment for IBD. This article will elaborate the relevant mechanisms and treatment strategies of
propolis in IBD. |
