| Abstract: | The binding of Escherichia coli adhesins to human umbilical vein endothelial cells was studied by a cell monolayer enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. S fimbriae displayed a concentration-dependent and saturable binding to the endothelial cells which was mediated by their sialylgalactoside-specific lectin activity. P fimbriae exhibited only low binding, and type 1 fimbriae exhibited no binding to these cells. |
